The Tiscapa hill fortress in Managua blew up yesterday afternoon, destroying all ammunition and killing 150 soldiers. The cause is unknown. Censor ships have been established from Managua to control reports.
Cape Haitien June 1 report says Hayti's southern department uprising against President Simon is growing serious after a month of fighting. Rebels claim several sharp engagements and victories while citizens are urged to join the army list.
Reports from Juarez dated June 1 state that four Mexican states Ronora Sinaloa Queretaro and Durango were turned over to provisional governors named by Francisco Madero. News of the governors’ inauguration included large public celebrations and orderly troop deployments. Daniel De Villieres is linked to a separate incident in El Paso involving a plot to kill Senor Auburn Me Lee and Leominster, Musa.
A 19 year old Keatingone left home to earn his living and walked to the Lake Street wharf, where he deliberately jumped into 20 feet of water. Onlookers tried to save him but he drowned. The family planned to move to Manchester soon. Body recovered.
Washington June 1 The Democratic tariff bill prepared by the House ways and means committee was presented to the Democratic caucus. It proposes a reduction of wool duties by one half to two thirds. Raw wool would carry a 6 1 percent duty, equivalent to three to five cents a pound, eliminating the free rate from earlier bills.
In Hodeida Arabia on June 1 rebels in Assyria captured Abta and the itar, taking three thousand Turkish troops prisoner from the garrison. Three batteries of artillery and several large pieces were seized. The rebel force marching to the garrison has been routed.
Dawson driving Marmon took fifth in the Smile Automobile race near Indianapolis on a Sunday night. A thief entered John McLaughlin’s room, stole a watch chain and guard worth 850, waking him as the heist occurred, and escaped with the loot. The event notes show McLaughlin not harmed and the money prize going to other competitors.
George E Copeland the wealthy mining man died from wounds after a shooting at his Victor Weeks home on Ruck paint. Harold Mwa shot him after killing another person. Affected by the attack, Col June L-George Ne Ci AL Hiatt and others had been ill. Louisa Von Ptnl of St Louis was involved in the events. The Rutland public schools will receive water supplies and arrangements are changing.

A break in at the Newmarket Manufacturing Company office yielded about 300. Police say the culprits fled toward Dover, New Hampshire and are being sought locally.

The second division of the U S Atlantic fleet sailed from Copenhagen this morning for Stockholm where the battleship squadron is due to arrive Saturday. Stockholm is the second port in the cruise itinerary of the foreign tour of international courtesy. Salutes were fired as the fleet passed out of the harbor.
Post master General Hitchcock announced the designation of 74 more second class post offices in 41 states as savings depositories effective June 27. They include locations such as Lewiston Maine Milford New Hampshire Newport Vermont and Leominster Massachusetts among others.

Two Central Vermont freight yard incidents in Burlington produce one fatality and one serious injury. George E. Clifford, a Central yard master, died after being struck and crushed while shifting cars. Harry Staples, a nonemployee, suffered severe injuries while seeking shelter from a storm, believed struck by a northbound freight train. Clifford’s funeral is planned for tomorrow. Staples was hospitalized with a badly broken arm and severe bruises.
Newfane June 1 deputy EM Kitts testified in Caspar M Smith murder case at Wardboro scene. He described signs of a fierce struggle and found a revolver and two bullets in kitchen woodwork. Smith claimed self defense after Mindell attacked him with a cordwood stick. Five witnesses described Smith as peaceful and industrious.
Philip Gilbertstrom of New York arrives to assume duties as Hebrew teacher and rabbi. Hebrew families will gather after public school hours for lessons in Hebrew language and Oriental history, with Gilbertstrom planning to stay permanently in the city.
The funeral for George H. Braley, a 4% US Army veteran, who died in Oakland, California, was held at the Universalist church in this city. The service took place on May 265 after the death.
Harry W Whitcomb longtime Barre resident and prominent business man died following an operation after a brief illness. Born in Burt May 22 1878 he ran a granite quarry firm Whitcomb Brothers with his brother and later partnered in stonecutting tools. He married Tarver Etta Olds in 1894 and had a son Lyny and Wendell Hall who died in infancy. He leaves one brother Friend X N Whitcomb and was a charter member of Barre lodge B P O Elks.
George Libersant is defendant in two suits brought by executors F G Howland and Alex Gordon of the W B Littlejohn estate. The first suit seeks general use sum of 6,000. The second is a foreclosure on quarry land purchased by Libersant in 1908, amounting to 10,000. Libersant faced a contempt action for alimony nonpayment. he claimed the property was tied up, requesting a receiver with George Straiten appointed.
A New York book agent left his horse hitched in front of Surprise Merchandise on Pearl Street. The horse wandered, dragged a wheel against a ground floor window, bending the glass of two large panes. The animal continued to the Otis Hotel before being stopped. Insurance was notified and replacement glass is planned.
