Four occupants escaping serious harm after a Ford, driven by George Golden, veered off a main highway near Orange Center and overturned, pinning Mrs. Mason Jenkins among others. All were shaken, with Jenkins suffering a deep nose cut and possible internal injuries, others braced by the overturned vehicle and freed after rock, debris, and vehicle damage forced the scene to a roadside halt.
Valentine Menotti, about to board a streetcar near Weet Second street, was struck by an auto and thrown to the ground. Witnesses say the car did not stop. Menotti, injured with a deep wound above the left eye, was helped to a Washington street physician. Police expect further developments as the investigation continues.
July 31 near Wheelock a driver, Dean McDowell of Sheffield, fell asleep while speeding. The car slammed into a telephone pole, breaking it in two, then struck a birch tree and stopped. Police reported no serious injuries.
Mitchell Provest of Burlington sustained severe injuries when attempting to step a runaway delivery team. The incident occurred Saturday evening as the team from the Consolidated Ice Delivery company pulled away, striking him and trapping him beneath the wheels. He was taken to a local hospital with a broken thigh and other injuries.
Mrs Mariah Crak Tilden widow of Harvey Tilden dies at home on North Street after extended illness. Born August 4 1822 in Ferris to Pally Twigs Crak she taught school in Barre and married Harvey Tilden who later served as county probate judge. Survived by two daughters Stella Averill and Mable J Tilden, three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from North Street residence Wednesday at 2 PM with Rev. L B Reardon officiating. interment Elmwood cemetery. Flowers omitted per request.
William A. Morrison of 44 Ave street Barre died Saturday in Chicago from the severe heat wave. He left Barre four months ago. his son Harold Morrison was notified by telegram. Funeral planned from 44 Ayers street with possible services at George Murray’s home. Morrison was born April 14 1845 in Aberdeen Scotland and leaves three children, Mrs Clifford Caswell of Mansfield Connecticut, William Leslie Morrison of Fort Stevens Oregon, and Harold Morrison of Barre.
The funeral for John Giacamuzzi, who died at his home on Addison Place, was held Saturday at 2 pm. Six bearers from his Austrian Tyrol homeland carried the casket to Hope Cemetery after a service at the house. Floral tributes came from family and many friends.
Barre resident Eusebio Albano, recently arrested in New York City and arraigned in Barre court on a charge of assault with intent to kill, is sued in county court by his alleged wife Cerutti for alienation of her affections. The defendant, said to have worked at the Alfam bone on Webster Avenue, is sought for a monetary remedy. The civil action, tied to a state case, is slated for the September term.
Mise Maybell Smith daughter of Charles and was married to Harry Smith of Montpelier in a Saturday wedding. Upwards of 250000 involved in a major realty and business transfer today as Crown Motor Car Co. sells its garage on Jefferson Street to Barre Garage Co. Inc. and H G Bennett. The brick two story building, erected in 1902 at about 40000, becomes Barre Garage and Bennett Buicks. Harvey and Mower will continue repair work. Bennett takes Buick agency and joins Vermont Cassilllas Go. Ownership shifts amid staff moves and future supervision.
