Five people were killed or fatally injured and ten seriously hurt when the boiler exploded on an Illinois Central fast freight train at Milan Tennessee. Two trains side by side on a siding caught fire and were consumed. The dead include the engineer the fireman and two tramps. ten others were seriously injured.
Sam son nrmants, an engineer for Heston & Albany railroad, was severely wounded when a torpedo fragment struck his cheek and pierced his skull after a collision with track debris near Albany. He was aided by his fireman and Dr. C. J. Pardson, then moved to Mary Hospital in Springfield where an eye was removed to extract the fragment.
