German and Austrian forces press toward Warsaw, overwhelming numbers at the gates of the Polish capital. Preparations for a triumphant entry by the German emperor loom as defenders retreat and civilians flee.
July 30 dispatches report Warsaw, the third city of Russia, under heavy pressure as German forces close gates to the Polish capital. The post office moved east, and fears grow for Russian army cohesion while Austro German offensives threaten from the south and the north toward the Warsaw Petrograd railway. Aviators hover above the city as plans for a German imperial entry circulate.
Berlin via London reports that in the eastern theater, the Niemen area remains unchanged. North of Suwalki, troops along the Olita railway captured part of the enemy line, taking 2,910 prisoners and two machine guns. Russians attacked south of Narew and Nasielsk with heavy losses. West of Novoselsk and the Vistula, 128 prisoners were taken. Southwest of the front, troop positions are generally unchanged.

Premier Okuma led the mass resignation claiming no responsibility for cabinet acts. ministers may advise inviting Okuma to stay and reconstitute a cabinet as public opinion sour over the war remains.
In Washington July 30 Secretary Lanving said a public safety committee, formed in Port Au Prince, seized the capital and runs the de facto government. After talks with American naval officers and the envoy, the committee began the city's disarmament today.
London authorities say a German national was arrested with a forged American passport. The document, sent from Washington, appears to be a dangerous forgery. The suspect allegedly claimed the fake passport was provided in Antwerp by a German secret service officer. The State Department has not engaged Germany over the matter, raising concerns for Americans abroad.
Reston July 30 The strike at the Plant of the Beoker Milling Machine ponies in Hyde Park opened as usual today with about 50 employees involved. Strikers planned meetings outside the gates of the Sturgeon blower works and other shops this evening where machinists are employed. Governor Foes, president of the company, did not meet them. The company’s position has changed since the previous meeting.

Manchester New Hampshire July 30 a stable and garage at 62 Lowell street owned by James W Richards burned shortly before 11 with 16 horses inside. Fire crews responded to a double alarm as flames spread rapidly. approximately 22,000 dollars in property was involved and 15 or more vehicles were saved amid intense efforts to prevent a larger disaster.

Ossining July 30 Charles Becker former New York City police lieutenant executed at Sing Sing for instigating the murder of Hermann Rosenthal. He entered the death chamber with priests, faced witnesses, and repeated a prayer as the electric chair delivered three shocks. Becker died at 5 47 after sunrise. A statement from Mrs. Becker vowed to reveal conviction methods, insisting her husband was an ordinary man with no angelic pretensions.
