Pawlet July 27. George Bromley aged 60 of this town died after his body became wedged in the spokes of a fast moving carriage driven by a frightened horse. He had returned from Granville New York where he traded, cries heard near the barn but efforts to stop the horse failed. The wheel had to be removed to extract the body. Bromley was the son of D W Bromley a prominent local man and leaves a wife.

State v. Mrs. Josephine Zenegra of Fows Street ended with Judge H W Scott discharging her after ruling a wife’s actions in liquor sales are under her husband’s coercive control. Witnesses had testified earlier. the court found no illegal sale by the respondent. A separate charge against Jenny Cavana of 4M North Main Street for selling liquor was not pressed in this session.
Graniteville A.C. overwhelmed Williamstown 22 to 0 in Sunset league action. Barre Glue Sox beat East Barre 5 to 1 before darkness halted play at end of seventh inning. Ham Robertson pitched well for the Sox while Kenefick matched him early. Williamstown led until late innings before collapse.

The firm plans Barre Vermont quarry and two local plants to consolidate wholesale and retail operations, employ many skilled workers and potentially double staff to meet expanded output. The Zanesville Signal notes expected benefits to both Barre and Zanesville operations.

Visitors in the city yesterday included Mr and Mrs Perley M Carr of Canty street who spent a week with relatives in Laconia. Mr and Mrs Feenge McKeindrick left for Taunton after days with Bel Lo Honen and relatives in W shareetown and Roxbury. Miss Florence Caye left for Maplewood NH to spend the remainder of the summer. Leon Mage returned from Chelsea after visits here. Mr and Mrs Michael Corroran returned today. John Lynch of Brooklyn NY, visiting the Kenetick farm, departed for Concord NH for a few days. Charles Whittier, visiting here, left Thursday night for New Colchin.
Goddard seminary executive committee votes to establish a new domestic sciences department beginning in September. Miss Blomsfield, sister of Rev Blomfield of Montpelier, will lead the department with extensive training in domestic science and art from Hackley School and Western State Normal. She has taught in New Britain Connecticut and Grand Rapids Michigan. The course will cover cooking, marketing, sewing, basketry, and drawing, including mechanical drawing. The college anticipates strong local interest and plans a detailed course outline later.
The Central Labor union of Barre and vicinity decided last night to hold Labor Day festivities at Intercity Park with baseball and football games and other events. Hugh Frayne of New York, organizer for the American Federation of Labor, will attend to deliver a Labor Day address. Commuters will be busy arranging the celebration to be attractive and successful. The executive committee of the O.S.U. may call a union meeting soon to decide on actions regarding representation to the legislature.
