Waterbury July 24 Laure Broggie seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Del Santi of the Partar addition who was taken ill last week and whose ailment was later diagnosed as infantile paralysis died at 11 oclock last evening suffering intense pain There are two other children in the family but as yet they are not affected The other patients are getting on nicely.
Vermont officials protest camp bans on Sunday landings of Vermonters excursions amid rumors of infantile paralysis spreading near the lake. Senator Page warned he may visit to press action as Col. Wolf revoked passes into Vermont and cited the state health board’s reports to the surgeon general.
Washington July 24 Major General Goethals resigned as manager of the Emergency Fleet Corporation and his resignation was accepted by President Wilson. Springfield reports say Mrs Sadie Otis, a buyer in the department, was fatally injured in an auto collision. Joseph A Tomako, of 245 North Main Street, was severely hurt when the car struck by a city bound trolley near the Barney residence in Pecousle.
Historic dispute over University of Vermont German professor Herr Appelmann surfaces again. Governor Graham Redfield Proctor officials publicized by Burlington News. Trustees missed June meeting where seven to five vote reversed his resignation. Governor Kakam says he would have opposed imposing Appelmann. Attendee Preetar says no warning of reinstatement and doubts arise. President Benton urged restraint amid renewed controversy.

Fourteen year old Rosie Pears of Portland Maine ran away to St Johnsbury on a Thursday. Sheriff Grstem reported efforts to locate and return her, with local authorities aiding in the search and possible return to her guardians. Weather hindrances noted as investigators pursued the case.

Mrs Gertrude B Bartlett died Monday afternoon at home 124 East Street after a heart ailment. A Marshfield native long based in Plainfield she lived in Barre three years and leaves son Clarence E Bartlett and sister Mrs Joseph Martin. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm at home. Rev I O Sherburne will officiate. interment in Plainfield village cemetery.
Bellows Falls residents awoke to alarm as guards fired on prowlers near the town water plant. The intruders fled after guards discharged shots. 16 home guard volunteers rushed to reinforce the dam area. Authorities described the incident as an apparent bid to damage the water supply and deter guards at the plant gates.
