London officials report British troops have taken a large portion of the village of Porlieres from German positions and pushed toward the high wood near Guillemont. The update notes progress on a broader four day Riga front action and mentions a daring French aviator flight over Berlin.
Paris July 21 official dispatch reports Lieutenant Marshial of the French aviation corps flew over Berlin last month dropping proclamations before returning to his lines. He was forced to descend in Maland and was captured by German forces after a long flight of about seven hundred miles mostly in darkness. The message notes the bomber refrained from bombing an open town to spare women and children.

Baltimore July 24 from a reliable source the American agency of the Deutschland says negotiations are under way for a large gold shipment to be loaded onto the submarine today and the vessel would then sail.
An American in Parral reports Francisco Vila narrowly escaped capture when his column was repulsed by de facto troops two weeks earlier. Vila fled a carriage using improvised crutches and a nurse behind him, as described in the letter from El Paso dated July 24.
Arrivals from Mexico City report a series of decrees to be issued in Mexico. Anne Eliza Banister a Barre native and longtime Potsdam resident died in Potsdam New York after a jaundice illness. Survived by sister Mrs Laura Dodge and several nephews and stepchildren. Funeral at Elm Street residence with burial in the Boon family lot at Benwood cemetery. Born March 12 1894 she married H Spencer Banister in 1892 and lived in Barre Montpelier and Potsdam.
Barre Board of Trade members will travel to Chelsea Wednesday evening from City Hall Park, with supper served at Chelsea Town Hall. Tickets cost five cents, limited to 140. transportation by automobile arranged for all supper ticket holders.
John Slade of Boston pleaded guilty to larceny of a watch before Magistrate H W Scott in city court near town. He was arrested on a Grand Juror complaint as a fining payment awaited. Kibby of Williamstown admitted operating an auto without proper lights and paid a fine plus costs.
July 24 at Taland Pond Archie Turgeon a seventeen year old son of Mr and Mrs Frank Turgeon drowned while swimming from a canoe. He and a companion were in a swimsuit when the canoe overturned and he sank after crying for help once. The youth born in Veland Tod lived with his parents and worked in shops of the Grand Trunk railway.
London July 4 Sir Frederick Saith attorney general informed Sir Roger Casement's solicitor he cannot grant a stay that would enable Casement to appeal the death sentence for high treason.

The incident follows a July 24 event involving a road incident on the state route, with local witnesses noting a tire-related issue and a subsequent assault inquiry at the American association office.
Chelsea July 24 The state resumes its Felch case against Williams and co defendant Anna Folch as WilLiams faces a possible confession. Key witnesses include Worthley the stenographer and Dr F Whitney who tests blood on boots and a handkerchief found at Williams house, with Whitney confirming human blood.
Miss Jeesie Robertson died at her Perrin street home after a illness. The service was conducted at Barre Congregational church with Rev. F L Alle of Worcester officiating. Mrs Rhrachey sang two selections and Miss Glades Gale played the organ. Pallbearers included Alfred McKay Grange Mackay William Letourneau Sheldon Anewn Raymond Wishart and John McCarthy. Interment followed in Hope cemetery family lot.
Two motorized and horse drawn vehicle collisions occurred on North Main Street near Depot Square. A touring car driven by Dr Watson clipped a horse drawn buggy driven by Francis McLeay, injuring no one but scattering bystanders. A jitney hit a carriage, sending driver McLeay dragging, and the horse bolted to Depot Square before stopping near Vermont Fruit. Police investigated. witnesses cited blame on autos.
William Spence of South Barrera was treated at City hospital for a fractured right foot a broken left instep and a knee wound after alighting from a street department truck on South Main Street. Driver Perley Witham stopped immediately. investigators found no fault with the driver.
Joseph Rabidean a Barre resident for 25 years died at Cite hospital Sunday at 3 AM after months of illness. Survived by his wife Margaret Vile and two children, with three sisters and six grandchildren. Born in Cooperville South Carolina, he learned the stone mason trade and later worked as a fireman porter at Hotel Narre. Funeral services will be held at St. Tobi and interment in Catholic cemetery.
Richar Moody, 14, and his brother, 13, were attacked with crips while bathing in Dog River yesterday afternoon. Richar made a brave effort to save his brother but both died.
In Dag River near Northfield Falls on Saturday afternoon Richard Moody aged 14 and his younger brother Dwight Moody aged 13 drowned after Dwight cramped while swimming. The elder Moody went to aid his brother, both disappeared beneath the water, and their bodies were recovered after more than three hours with help from local officials and townspeople. The Moody family, long residents of Northfield, resided in Barre and face a family loss as authorities removed the bodies for burial in Waterbury.
Heat Barnet aged 18 from St Johnsbury drowned while camping above the river yesterday. Rescue attempts failed as party members searched the water and carried out safety measures, but Barnet could not be revived. Authorities are reviewing the accident site and river conditions.
