Eugene Newman a 24 year old youth killed in the office of William Cleary town clerk of Haverstraw. Cleary and his son in law were present when four shots rang out. Leary surrendered at the newspaper office and was committed to Rockland county jail in New York City on a murder charge.
Riots erupt in St John New Brunswick during a street car strike. Soldiers charged two of 1008 Market Square as cars were overturned and damaged. Firemen at a power house were stoned and the city went without power. Authorities planned tighter guard measures to prevent further trouble.
The Robinson Genealogical Society formed in Taunton Massachusetts July 18 1900 met in Burlington at Hotel Vermont with over 100 attendees. Officers include Miss FE W Riinecin secretary Rosewell R Robinson treasurer and N Winthrop Robinson chair. Thomas Gladstone Carswell, Barre granite manufacturer and former captain in the Vermont National Guard, died at his home on Se Hi Street after a brief illness. A Scots-born, longtime Barre resident, he led Carnwell-Wetmore and Barre Granite Manufacturers associations, served in Spanish American War, and remained active in Vermont militia circles.
