Esther Norling, 20, was killed near 424 Street and Fifth Avenue in broad morning rush. Police pursue Charles Warner, her former employer, alleged assailant who fled into a building, climbed a fire escape, and escaped through a rear garage after a pistol duel with officers. Norling had said Warner harassed her.
Providence police and Warnick plus Cranston town officers scour woods and farms for three insane inmates who escaped the state hospital. Elton Cook and Thomas McGarrahan from Lilage are among those on the run after attempts to murder their former wife and child or current partner. Frank Wheeden, jailed for attempted murder of Dulsy Coulters and Lents, escaped again after a brief capture.
Frank D. Harmon of New York City was killed when a touring car carrying him and four others swerved to avoid a carriage, struck the railroad tracks, and overturned at Lincoln street and owner avenue in Hingham. The party included Mrs. Harmon. all were injured, and Harmon died at the hospital within an hour from a fractured skull.
Frank Sebra, a popular young resident of Penacook New Hampshire, drowned in the Contoocook River canal that supplies the spin mill and axle works after a ladder slipped while he helped his father remove a store. He fell into the water, was swept away by the current, and attempts to rescue him failed. by the time aid arrived, he was beyond help. The accident occurred behind the Alexander book building where the Ed Atwood drag firm project was underway.
Karlsruhe July 3 Karl Haul a young Washington law professor was condemned to death after a five day trial for murdering his wife's mother Frau Molitor in Baden Baden. Crowds protested, police and infantry cleared streets, several arrests made and an appeal hinted by Dr Dietz.
George Morse of Rutland announces the Yermuny State Golf association championship will be held August 1 to 4 at the Ekwanok course instead of Rutland. Poor putting greens at Rutland caused the change while the Ekwanok course is in excellent condition.
San Francisco July 23 The death toll from the steamer Columbia wreck rose again as survivors were tallied. One lifeboat with 16 living and two dead had been found. six lifeboats and three life rafts failed to reach shore. Until all are confirmed, exact numbers saved remain uncertain, but the death list is now expected to exceed 50, with 177 as a preliminary estimate.

Chandier suffered an estimated 100000 dollars in losses with 60000 dollars insured. Fireman Henry D. Gauthier was injured by a falling ladder.
Mrs Delight K Larimer a 7 year resident of Laconia attempted to jump from a church railing yesterday afternoon. Responding officers stopped her at the last moment and she was taken to City Marshal Howell's office. She spoke only of being a spiritualist who wished to die and was later sent to Belknap county farm for confinement. Neighbors noted a month of mental decline. she had previously advertised as a doctor and spiritualist and had lived with Rev FD Chandler. Her sister Mrs Caroline Felch lives in East Tilton.
L C Clark faced city court on July 23 for exceeding the speed limit on Shelburne road. Deputy Henry Todd testified to a high rate of speed in the Potash brook area. The defense argued negligence could be negated by other facts and debated whether Clark or Miles Miles, the chauffeur, was driving when the violation occurred.
Burlington July 23 bids opened for a proposed mechanical filtration plant. Legg ee coun per of New York submitted the lowest bid at 37300 dollars for steam equipment and 36720 dollars for electrical equipment. Specifications include a 250000 gallon coagulating basin four concrete filter tanks each 200 square feet net area and a 100000 gallon clear water basin plus all appurtenances and piping to the neighboring pumping station.
Oberlin, Ohio, July 23. Allen Wilson known as Tug, famed football quarterback for a bigary college, was crushed to death today in a welding car on the Cleveland and Southern electric line while working with a welding gang.
Brattleboro July 23 The suit Helen M Moore versus her ex husband 3 M Moore of Newfane proceeded at South Newfane before Judge Morbe with a verdict for Moore to recover 34 76 and costs Moore had secured a divorce and charged wages for nursing him while ill but he refused to pay her wage claim of 145 appealed to county court and the case will be tried at the September term

Rutland July 8 George Corrigan of this city has been granted a fourth class liquor license by the secretary of state to do business at the bottling works of Buxton Street. The license authorizes selling to wholesale and retail licensees. The fee is $750. City officials lack authority to issue this class of license.
A. J. McDonough of Montpelier, long assistant superintendent, has been promoted to lead the Rutland Metropolitan Life Insurance office and will move there soon. City hall plans near completion with changes discussed by the city hall committee and Architect Walker. Architect Adams continues work on an added floor given to the second level and a flat to be prepared. Miss Alice Brockwith of Newbury, visiting the South, enjoys time with Mr. and Mrs. Willard Whitcomb. Beckwith, formerly a public school kindergarten teacher, seeks superintendent duties in Florence, Mass. Charley Hackett and a crew began river wall work for the Montpelier and Wells River road project yesterday.
Hugh McLean of Chelsea wins a 30 mile race to claim canoe America title with a lead of five points over James Moran of Chelsea in second place and Robbie Welthour of Atlanta third. Moran takes runner up honors with 11 points while Welthour, last year’s champion, finishes behind.
Rutland withdraws from the Vermont league leaving Barre Montpelier Burlington and Plattsburg to complete the schedule. Plattsburg and Burlington prepare for upcoming exhibition games while managers say a three team circuit can finish the season. Several Rutland players seek new clubs amid unpaid wages and travel costs.
Rutland July 23 Rain delayed Barre-Montpelier at Rutland but five innings were played with the Hyphens prevailing 4 to 1. John Rogan, released Saturday after 40 days for intoxication, was sent back to jail for 60 days by the city court. Harriet B. Moulton wed Herbert E. Wallace in a Saturday ceremony with the groom a teamster. Ottilia Bargamo, recently arrived from Italy, married Antonio Giscobbi of Shirre, with Justice James Mackay officiating. they will reside at 153 Seminary Street.
State Board of Pharmacy held exams at Montpelier on July 10. Thirteen candidates took the test and four passed. Names listed include F. M. Annis, Halliban, Rochele, and others. Rochele is the youngest at ten, ineligible to practice until age twenty-one.
The Burlington city court admitted I Henry Parker W B Reeves and BR G Melville to bail after waiving examination for allegedly furnishing intoxicating liquor to Lily Busith. Bail set at 600 dollars each with John d Flynn as surety. Reeves ill and unable to appear. he will be admitted to bail later.
In West Milton on July 23 Frank Poryea and a young Nan from New York state employed by PF E Blake nearly drowned during a Sunday bath. Poryea went too far while swimming. Oliver Cameron, who was nearby, reached Poryea as he disappeared for the third time and pulled him back to safety before he could be overcome.
In a July 08 event, Premier Clemenceau and General Sequart ascended in a military dirigible Dalloon Padle. The craft malfunctioned, knocking down two houses and causing a yard of debris. A water pipe burst near Invalides, soaking the premier with hot water but no injuries were reported.
In Montpelier Sadie Peake Cochran wearing all white was arrested for intoxication after a rain soaked stroll. She pleaded not guilty on July 23, with her case set to August 1 after a brief continuance discussion with her attorney M. M. Gordon of Barre.
Thomas Nierney of Websater ville escaped serious injury when a roof slip sent him over the edge. He slid seventeen feet before the fall was arrested, striking his side but with no broken bones. Dr. J. B. McSweeney expects a two week recovery.
