Rutland Man Killed by Lightning While Shelter Seeking

Rutland July 29 H D Edson a prominent Rutland resident died instantly when lightning struck a barn where he and his brother Alonzo Edson had taken refuge from a storm. The 68 year old Edson born Brandon VT in 1840 served in the Civil War a longtime school commissioner and town selectman and was past commander of the G A R post. He survived by a wife a son and two daughters. His brother was injured but alive.
