A large roof pierce failed at Jones Bros granite plant sending a 40 foot long 50 ton stone into twain as derrickmen prepared to set it down The stone was quarried from Jones Bros quarries recently regarded as very difficult to quarry.

George R. Hark ness a wealthy Long Island real estate dealer is under arrest in New York on a charge of shooting and killing Florence Hopp of Lewesburg Pennsylvania at a hotel in York. Hark ness says the shooting was accidental as Mrs. Hopp examined an automatic revolver he had recently bought.
Rodney F. Carter, famed granite dealer from Vermont towns Handwick and South Ryegate, died at a Baltimore hospital at age 74 after illness. He ran a quarry later sold to Mr. Fletcher and planned to return to Vermont. Survived by widow E C Carter and children E T Dayden, E F Farrington, Edwin P Carter, George Carter, Arthur Bh Carter, Ruth M Carter. Burial in Baltimore.
A specimen of the brown tail moth was captured on State Street in Montpelier. Vermont agricultural officials report the moth is brown tail as certified by Worcester forester F W Rowe, noting the insect is new to the area and foliage damage is limited to aesthetic effects.
Deputies Ward Carver A M Morrison and W F Cutler raided the Tough-end store run by Odule Gilbert in Graniteville seizing twelve cases of jamaica ginger totaling 142 bottles. Gilbert and storekeepers A L Foster and Fred Longchampes were arrested on selling charges. Arraignment expected before Justice Scott in Justine Court today.
Miguel Cobo was arrested in Waterbury by Officer Marry Tramble under a grand jury warrant charging breach of the police. In city court Judge I W Scott set the case for Monday after a not guilty plea and $200 bail. Cobo allegedly engaged in an altercation with Charles Villa near Granite Street last Sunday.
Barre Blue Sox defeated Williamstown AL 7 4 in the only Sun Set League game last evening. Borl Willinms earned the win, collecting six hits as Barre secured the victory. The Graniteville East Barre game was postponed due to mutiny concerns and the league stalled.
