King George and other royal family members stood with civil and military leaders before Buckingham Palace to receive salutes as Allied soldiers arrived. Large crowds cheered the procession and reception, marking a ceremonial welcome by Britain to allied forces.
Nin eenthousand allied sailors and soldiers from Britain and Dominions parade through London led by General Pershing. King George and royal family receive veterans on Buckingham Palace steps as 4000 widows and children watch. The parade features Americans, British, French, Italian, Belgian and other forces with Haig, Salmond, Keyes and Neathreath in attendance. Peace festivities spill into Hyde Park and Regents Park with dances, concerts, pageants, and a 5000-strong choir. Religious services and nationwide peace carnivals mark the end of war.

Berlin, Friday, July 18. Gustav Noske, defense minister, says open air meetings and parades in greater Berlin will not be permitted for the next month. Independent socialists plan a general strike Monday in response to Noske’s restrictions and July 21 demonstrations loom in Hamburg and Vienna as part of a coordinated labor movement.
Taris July 15 reports Bela Kun foreign minister of the Hungarian Soviet government described the proletarian dictatorship as undergoing a triple crisis moral economic and political. He blamed weakness toward reactionaries corruption in communist ranks and production difficulties for the strain and warned revolts abroad signal impending action including planned July 21 strikes in France Italy and Switzerland. He claimed Entente powers could not choke the Hungarian communists amid internal turmoil and external pressure.
American firms establish workshops in Bucharest Belgrade and Athens to produce the latest artificial legs for war wounded. Native workers in Romania Serbia and Croatia are being taught American methods under American supervision.
A gas explosion at the Trzewell Coal Company mine near Kimball killed twenty one men and trapped about two hundred workers for hours. Seven bodies were recovered by yesterday afternoon, with work continuing to reach additional casualties under wreckage at the mine mouth. Residents in Aluifield reported earlier totals of twenty two deaths from the Kimball accident.
Bad weather compounded problems as the Boston elevated railway strike stretched into its third day. Commuters faced severe in-city transport gaps while conciliators push for a wage settlement and the potential arbitration board inclines toward Councilman Francis J. W. Ford if appointed by Governor Coolidge. Mayor Peters returned and urged settlement as steam rail and bus services stepped up to cope with crowd flows.
In New York Harbor a strike by firemen, deliverers and water tenders caused many vessels to be tied up while some coastwise steamers operated under signed agreements with strikers. Unemployed numbers rose as Longshoremen and freight handlers also left work amid embargoes on export shipments. One man was shot and another fatally injured in a clash between strikers and strikebreakers on the Brooklyn water front.
July 1 Chicago transportation workers vote overwhelmingly to strike if wage increases and better working conditions are not granted by the companies. They demand about seven to eight percent raise, an eight hour day, and improved conditions. Company officials expected an agreement would be reached.
Providence union carmen halted virtually all Rhode Island street railway service as of midnight. About 2500 workers demanded a wage increase to 75 cents an hour and the company said it would operate only if possible.
Washington July 14 British and French consuls have entered Germany to rebuild trade ties while the U S cannot send its consuls. The department cannot authorize consular entry until the peace treaty is ratified. American customs laws require consular certification of imported goods, and no extension of temporary authority is available for German or other powers’ clerks.
Yarmouth Nova Scotia July 10 steamship Governor Cobb bound from Boston to Yarmouth with 600 passengers ran aground off Green Island early this morning. Messages say she is in no danger and rescuers hope to float her at high tide. The report notes the vessel carries 580 or 600 passengers in different dispatches.
Peking reports an expedition for defending the northwest against General Semenov’s alleged aggression. About five thousand troops drawn from contingents trained by the Japanese for national defense are being dispatched toward Urgu. For the first time, large numbers of automobiles are to be used for troop transport and airplanes are expected to be utilized.
Boston July 19 The world champion Red Sox issue a statement from nearly all members denying dissension and blaming bad breaks weak pitching and regulars underperforming Manager Edward Barrows is praised for his conduct and Carl Mays slated for trade as several teams seek him and two more pitchers may move.
Washington July 19 There was a recess in the Senate debate on the peace treaty and in its foreign relations committee consideration Senators Ponierene Heckham Morrison all Democrats plan to speak Monday with more than a score others preparing to take part Provident Wiliam has no engagements today but is expected to resume his talk with Republican members Monday
New York July 1 the vanguard of the Fighting Fifth division of the regular army arrived today on the transport Henry B Mallory. More than five sick and wounded reached shore while the division endured heavy action with American forces suffering over a thousand casualties during combat.
Charles Piint of Boston visits his parents in this city while Tony Corey of Prospect street returns from Darlin NHS after attending his cousin Morrix Lebaron's wedding. A private dance last evening in Worthenhall honors Mr ami Mee and Philip Beantien of Lawrence who wed in Lawrence three weeks ago. Guests toured a blue home on Brook street as light refreshments were served and Gilburtsen's orchestra provided music.
Clinton George Paquin of Barre city died at City Hospital at 1:20 AM after injuries from yesterday afternoon at Young Bros granite plant off Mackwell Street. He was found four feet from the crushing belt with a crushed skull and mangled arm, the result of his apron or belt being caught in the revolving machinery while he attempted to grease the belt. Paquin, longtime city employee, leaves a wife and children. funeral set for Monday with burial in Wilson Cemetery, South Barre.
The vanguard of the Pacific fleet departed Old Point Comfort Virginia at 8:30 am heading west via the Panama Canal. Six superdreadnoughts and 30 destroyers and tenders lead 200 naval craft bound for Pacific waters under unusual circumstances.
Brattleboro July 19 A force of men has begun work at the West Dummerston granite quarry to resume operations. The Flint Granite Company of Mans on Mass owns the site which has long produced first class stone. About 100 men were formerly employed there and James Phillips of West Dummerston has been hired as foreman.
Washington July 1 The House resumed consideration of the prohibition enforcement bill. A portion of the bill is already perfected Dry leaders said they would insist on a night session to signal through Sunday papers that the measure with its drastic provisions had passed and was ready for the Senate.
At Barre Quarry Owners meeting Prof W H ima of the University of Vermont reported on the producing capacity of the Montpelier and Barre Light and Power system. Investigation found two engines at the Pioneer plant producing 3400 kilowatts while a 600 kilowatt engine remained idle. Other plants were not operated and may take a week to return to full output, contributing to a power shortage despite contracted Essex Junction supply.
Solicitors have begun raising funds to locate a knitting mill in Barre. So far 55,000 in pledges from blocks of 5,000, with a target of 100,000. Investors to supply 5,000 each. stock at 100 per share with interest at text. Names of local investors listed for inquiries and further details via Board of Trade or secretary.
The United States naval submarine chaser No. 24 arrived in Burlington and is moored at the Champlain Transportation Company wharf. Departed from New York, the 110 foot vessel, now stripped of armament, will stay about eight weeks after service overseas and actions against solitaries.
Cambridge University will confer honorary degrees next Wednesday on General John Pershing of the United States and General Arthur Currie of Canada along with other war leaders. The presentation ceremony will take place at Cambridge.
St. Johnsbury July 1 W B Leno of Montpelier, camping at Jones Pond, was severely burned Thursday night when attempting to light a gasoline trim. The blast burned his right hand and arm. he was taken to St Albans for treatment.
Barre city council preliminarily approves a plan to test supplying herds for tuberculosis and to draft ordinances ensuring safe milk. Dr. Adams and Dr. Bancroft back a city inspection, with the state paying most cattle condemnation costs, as gov ernment and health reports link bovine TB to human cases. The committee will report soon on new testing requirements and safeguards for Barre’s milk.
Burlington July 1 David Quebey a Civil War veteran aged 73 died at Fanny Allen Hospital after a serious accident. He was formerly employed by the Central Vermont railroad to Saint Albans. He leaves two sons D C Quebey of Rutland and T Quebey of St Albans. The funeral was held in St Albans last night.
