A 45,000,000 log drive is expected to pass and the river avenue may roll down for three to four weeks.
Civil War veterans G W Flagg and Lieut George Huck, once close friends in Company H of the 2d Vermont, reunite at a train in East Bralatene after 49 years. They served from Bull Run to Appomattox, sharing meals and battles, and both earned brevet captain ratings. Huck, born in Fairfax Vermont, moved to Lincoln Nebraska in 1870 and plans to return there.
Mrs Harold P Perkins lay on a front porch couch when a stranger vaulted the gate and struck her on the forehead. She slipped away as the man fled by the same route. Neighbors and her husband’s return from a Mason meeting quelled the shock as the assault left a heel-mark bruise. Police or authorities described the suspect only vaguely. the Perkins family suspects a lone opportunistic intruder with no clear motive.
Thomas W Sullivan of 187 South Champlain street employed at J J Booth mills fell twelve feet from the roof of an old box shop onto planks. He was unconscious on arrival at Mary Fletcher hospital and later regained consciousness. Doctors found no broken bones but head bruises and possible internal injuries were not yet determined. Sullivan is over sixty five and has a long work history with Shepard Morse and Booth lumber yards.
In Caledonia county court Jamies Lambar t of Danville and Willem E Abbott of Peacham pleaded guilty to rape charges. Lambert received one year to eighteen months in a house of correction and Abbott the same term in state prison. Several others pleaded not guilty to be tried later. Governor Fletcher attended as spectator amid related extradition proceedings for J E Alesnider on larceny charges.
Bethel July 11 Charlee Claren conductor on the White River railroad arrived with a broken nose and a black eye seeking Dr O V Greene for treatment after a quarrel near a havibre attack. Train incident left bystander injured and a local inquiry noted.
The First Baptist church in Barre held a joint anniversary last evening celebrating 25 years since its founding with Rev. G. Raymond guest pastor and Rev. Holt present. About 200 attendees, including early members, joined a reception and program from 8 to 9 p.m. The event honored the church's growth, recalled its early days, and set plans for continuing services led by Rev. Raymond tomorrow.

The 35 year old Charl Tierney a Consolidated Lighting Co lineman died after being electrocuted while shifting wires from high poles to lower standards at State and Taylor streets Montpelier at 7 25 this morning. A life belt saved him from a fall but burns and injuries confirmed he was dead on removal from the pole. Rescuers lowered the body and a pulmotor failed to revive him. Tierney leaves a wife and one child and had worked in Montpelier for nearly a decade.
Rutland July 11 William Taylor a Lineman for the Rutland Area Light and Power Co was instantly killed yesterday afternoon when he received a 2300 volt electric shock while 35 feet up an 80 foot pole. Co workers attempted rescue with palmotor and oxygen for four hours but he died at the scene. He had been with the company about 18 months and leaves a wife.
William Gingras died at his home on Merchant Street Extension at 2 20 pm after a prolonged illness of seventeen months. He was born in Rock Island and had lived thirty nine years in the town, previously working as a tram driver and brick mason. Surviving are three sisters in Derby Line and Somerville Musa and a brother in Fitzwilliam New Hampshire. Four children of the deceased had predeceased him. Relatives were notified of his death this morning and interment is likely Monday with arrangements pending.
