Moscow July 11 Count Schvalof was shot and killed as he received petitioners. The assassin escaped then was arrested later. Fear of mutiny spread in the city as police investigated the fatal shooting of the prefect during a petitioners' audience.
Kestenji July 11. Reports of battleship Potemkin sinking with Rear Admiral Kragers squadron Sumlay evening prove incorrect. The Potemkin lies at bottom but is expected to be refloated in time to depart Sevastopol on July 12.
In St Petersburg on July 11 officials fear a mutiny among Black Sea sailors may spread to officers. To quell unrest a plan is to send Baltic Sea fleet to Sevastopol to relieve and replace crews whose loyalty is in doubt.

A special train carried by Feeley arrived in Fort Madison Iowa three hours and five minutes ahead of schedule. Burlington July 11 The Mistons Union here withdrew from the Burlington Trades Council of Federation of Labor amid a dispute with the union that worked on a job using non union help The secretary Fr F Poole said the withdrawal does not change the union stance toward striking plumbers and they will continue to act with other unions in the city The masons claim they are free to act as they please despite the federation split
Fairfield July 11 A Fairfield boy, son of John Donnan, faced a near fatal goring when a bull charged him in a field last Saturday. The boy, unable to move, was saved when his dog distracted the bull long enough for him to crawl under a fence to safety.
Montpelier July 11 Trustees discuss the state asylum affairs amid a legislature ordered investigation. Dan J. Burditt says the inquiry vindicates Trustees Wing and Hutchinson while noting the pool of candidates is small. An afternoon meeting will decide the superintendent’s fate and Burditt’s successor. Provisional officials named include B R Andrews, W J Upton, W S Watson and Hernion O ne.
Edward Willey of Roxbury was seriously wounded when a mowing machine cutter bar struck his leg as he stood before the machine on the Stanton farm. Taken to Heaton hospital in Montpelier, doctors initially feared amputation but saved the foot and Willey is improving.
Fire at the girder shop of the old works in St Albans gutted and ruined the building owned by the Central Vermont Railway Co. The storage site held a mass of papers and records. Loss estimated around 100 dollars. The blaze started at 11 10 last evening and was extinguished before dawn.
A central train between Bethel and Randolph Vermont was blown off the tracks by a blast last night, derailment caused a wreck that left the train an hour and three parts late. No injuries reported. An engine was destroyed and a replacement despatched from the north.
Mise Mary S. Coutts surprised friends by announcing her engagement to a prominent local business man from a granite works. The bride, once a popular clerk, will wed at a ceremony in the near future and will be remembered for her ties to Barre and the surrounding area. Hyman D. Segal died at 6 o'clock this morning at his home in Turlington after long illness. He was 44 and had run a clothing business in the city for ten years before moving to Burlington two years ago. He later returned to Burlington briefly and formed a partnership with Brady but had not been here since last fall due to health. He leaves a wife and three children, plus brothers EB, I, and Bammvel Segel of Montpellier and Harry A. Segel of this city, along with lodge memberships in Granite Lodge and Odd Fellows.

Montpelier July 1 The semiannual report of the National Life Insurance Company shows 7191 new or issued policies in six months generating 12 914 899 07 in premiums. Net assets rise to 1 100 965 46, total reserves now 31 072 064 15. Policies total 72 543 representing 140 200 351 30. Since 1850 to date 29 215 195 8% of profits have been paid to policyholders. Insurance risk up 20 percent, income up 10 percent, assets up 184 percent in the last decade. Attending were President Joseph A Debbee, F Phelps of Boston, J B Beto Montpelier president, I M Cutler treasurer, ex governor G McCullough, W Stickney, D C Benedict, George Brigen, Pewith Montpelier etc. The meeting closed with a report.
Northfield on July 1 reports George Brown, former Northfield resident, donated 20,000 dollars to the town for a library building. The proposed structure measures about 58 by 28 feet and work begins this month with construction expected to start today.
