Austrian officials and newspapers welcomed the American Congress action ending the war with Germany and Austria Hungary. They expected financial aid but notes dispatches said Washington might waive Austrian reparations while rehabilitation plans rest with the League of Nations.
Rev. Richard J. Woodridge died today aboard the Fall River liner Priscilla after docking in New York. Police say his home was Fall River Massachusetts and that he had served multiple Congregational churches. He preached last Sunday in Middleboro.
Robert Taubert of Milwaukee was found dead today by fishermen in an oarless rowboat on Lake Tewaukee with a knife in his heart. This incident occurred near Waukesha Wisconsin and a local investigation is underway.
Rochester reports Mrs Earl Bean with a gloxinia lacking blossoms. Mrs L D Pierce and daughter Virginia visit relatives in Pittsburgh. Mr and Mrs Robert Guerneor and daughter from Leicester Junction tour town. Mr and Mrs James Cannon and Jon visit New York to see friends. Mrs Fred Eaton ill but improving. Mrs Kies Houston returns from Portland with two companions. Miss Greeley of White River Junction stays at Tinkham's. Margaret Miller visits for weeks. Rev and Mrs C B Welle recent guests at Wake Robin farm. The Weld family held a reunion at the old Cleveland home. Mrs Seahel Kent and daughter Minte McCarthy plan to drive across Iowa. The Slaters of Chester visit town Sunday.
Charles Baldwie of Keene and Mrs P F Bred opened a home in Keene with Mrs Bred spending the winter there. The article notes the new residence is near her mother and references their keene visit.
Judge Stanton heard Brewer versus Hunt in chancery and granted a temporary injunction restraining Hunt from operating as a second hand furniture dealer in Montpelier. Brewer recently purchased the business and alleges Hunt resumed trading.

In Dedham Massachusetts on July 6 1920 the district attorney revealed that Sacco and Vanzetti joined an Italian group fleeing to Mexico in 1917 to avoid military service. Vanzetti testified he spent four to five months in Monterey with Sacco and six others. He admitted owning a nickel plated revolver with five chambers and later lied about its age and cartridge count.
Gordon Coutts of Beebe a 45 year old Canadian oversea man died at Sherbrooke hospital from injuries after a quarrel with blacksmith George LeClair. Coutts shot LeClair twice then fled to a barn where he was captured after a pursuit by two constables. authorities doubt whether Coutts died from his own shot or a head wound.
A Congregational church campfire girls group returns to the city after a few days at Joe’s pond. The report mentions accompanying adults and a police officer from Manchester on their return trip to Barre. No injuries or losses are stated.
Alexander Watson longtime Barre stonecutter died at 4 15 this morning at his home 56 Merchant street after a months long illness from cancer He had worked at the Harrison Granite Co plant and recently retired His life spanned Scotland and America with a family of a wife and three daughters and he was active in Masonic circles and in the First Presbyterian church Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 o clock from the home Rev William McN kittridge officiating Burial will be at Hope Cemetery
Carlo Merlo one of Barre Montpelier Waterbury and Northfield’s oldest Italians died at 39 Granite Street at 6 30 last evening from Brights disease after a period of ill health. He came to Barre nearly 39 years ago as a paving cutter in Gloucester and later ran a grocery, with sons expanding into a cigar shop fountain billiard parlor and soft drink manufacturing. He married in Gloucester in 1883 to Miss Ciucep pin Brivio. survivors include wife three sons Joseph Peter Dellir and daughter Adelina all at home. Funeral services are set for two tomorrow at his late residence.
Mrs. William McHardy Isabelle Jane Craigie Reid died at her Barre home after a prolonged heart ailment. Born June 10 1874 in Kilon Aberdeen Scotland she emigrated in 1913 to join her husband William McHardy. Survived by husband two sons Patrick and William a daughter Idabelle a nurse in Barre City Hospital her mother and multiple siblings in Scotland Montana and New Zealand. funeral arrangements pending with Rev W McN Kittredge presiding.
Leon Phillipe died Saturday at home in Graniteville from heart trouble. Funeral held at St Sylvestre church with burial in St Sylvestre cemetery. Bearers included Al Dienomeceur and Ed. The deceased Leaves two sisters one in Lyndonville and the other in Canada.
Luigi Gobbi shot landlady Mrs. Battista Gilli in their Barre tenement kitchen over unpaid board and then killed himself. Gilli is hospitalized with two bullet wounds. Gobbi's body lies at Badger Undertaking. Authorities note Gobbi owed about $140 and had been told to find another boarding place.

Quebec July 4 report details extensive forest fires in northern Ontario timber belts. Two bridges burned at Breakeyville and woodlands destroyed in Abitibi Beauce St Maurice river Casquet and areas along Skelter Bay Tolumoatock with widespread damage across multiple sections.
The Montpelier and Barre Light and Power Co plans to reset all Main street poles between Blackwell and Prospect with new poles placed inside the curb on the sidewalks rather than at the curb. The proposal was presented to the city council and referred to the street and lighting committee for investigation and report. Building permits were issued for three properties and city payrolls for several departments were approved. The police report listed eight arrests in June including burglary and assault with intent to kill among others.
A Barre hotel gathering invites men who served overseas to form a new Veterans of Foreign Wars post. National deputy chief of staff James H. Cripp will outline work and install officers if a local post is formed. Eligible members include service in the Philippines, Cuba, Spain, Haiti, Santo Domingo, Mexico, China campaigns and World War I.
