Newport candidate for Republican nomination secured 395 votes to 339 for Zed S Stanton of Roxbury at Montpelier today. Majority of doubtful Windham County votes went to the Washington County man. The results of nominations for the other state positions.
George H. Prouty of Newport was nominated for governor on the first ballot by 395 of 734 votes with Stanton as rival candidate. J. Mead won the lieutenant governor post. Guy W. Balley defeated Farnsworth for secretary of state. Deavitt renominated state treasurer. Graham and Sargent reappointed as auditor and attorney-general respectively. A platform backed Roosevelt Proctor education tax reform and public service under state control.

St Albans July 1 The state Prohibition ticket was named by the executive committee as authorized by the state convention. The gubernatorial candidate is a Lyndonville jeweler and banker at the head of the Vermont Good Templars. The slate includes Eugene M. Campbell for attorney general George C Thrall for first district congressman Edward K Towle for state’s at large electors Merritt L Morgan Noble L Ball Fred L Page and A K Corwin among others. The platform calls for state prohibition a probation item for inebriates retention of the anti canteen law and moves to regulate liquor transport with a national health bureau and forest preservation emphasis.
New York July 1 Mayor McClellan announced he has paid about 40,404 to defend his mayoral title in post election litigation. He notes the protracted case increased his total vote and reduced his official plurality by roughly 500 contested ballots. He sees the expense as discouraging future election contests and asserts he would have acted differently if fraud were suspected.
George Herbert Prouty, Republican nominee for Vermont governor, is a native of Newport. He is a leading lumber industry businessman aged 46, born March 4, 1862. He attended Newport High School St Johnsbury Academy and Bryant and Stratton College Boston, with a political record in the Vermont House 1896 Senate 1904 as president pro tempore and lieutenant governor elected with Governor Proctor two years ago.

Other charters revoked for no organization formed include Chittenden County Traction of Burlington and Newport & Derby Electric Railroad.
A stream of guests checked into the City Hotel and the Hotel Otis late last night and this morning. Notable names include J. Heron of Hartford, T. Hall of Woodsville, P. K. McAutil, C. M. Waddell of Burlington, and many others from Vermont and neighboring states.
Frank Purley of Northfield was declared the Republican nominee for Congress in the Second District by a 217 to 150 vote at the St Johnsbury convention. A motion to make the nomination unanimous followed, met with cheers. Candidate Plumley arrived exhausted from the effort and accepted the nominal victory, pledging strong efforts.
London reports that over a thousand suffragists rallied and attempted to free 28 or 29 prisoners seized after last night’s demonstration. Police hid in the prison yard as the crowd rushed a police van. Prisoners faced bonds or de facto monthslong terms, with several choosing the martyr path and vows to resume nightly protests until women win the franchise. Police prepared to handle potential new demonstrations with thousands more officers.
Fairfax July 1 progress in Bellows Free academy diploma distribution reveals cheating claims. Principal Chittenenden investigated reports that some students used text books to pass. Fourteen diplomas were issued after a retest while others had diplomas withheld pending action.
Burlington July L closing exercises of Rev Fr Cloaree jubilee were held last night at St Joseph church hall. About 75 clergy attended a banquet with yellow and brown decorations and music by an orchestra. Fr Cloaree received a gold chalice with remarks from Rev D J O Sullivan on behalf of the priests of dinekee.
James N. Ashmore defends the Intercity Athletic association over control of Barre Montpelier games. He states the association receives ground-use rent and invites attendance, denying anonymous editorials. He promises details to be shared if Observer reveals himself.
Burtington July 2. Despmgers on the southbound Rutland railroad train endured a burning bridge incident near Chester causing a 49 minute delay. Armed guards and sheriffs guarded the route toward Belden and Heldens as threats from alleged ex-railroad workers circulated about burning bridges between Rutland and Albury. Officials refuse comment.
Ida May Dellamore daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Densmore of Highland Ave and George Henry Collamer were quietly married at the Methodist parsonage by Rev Thayer. They leave on a wedding trip and will reside at 10 West Street. Both are well known in Barre with the bride a long time central telephone operator and the groom a Post Office employee.
Tiarilo B. of East Barre and Miss Rose of New York City were married by Justice Ay OC Dickey last evening at the groom's parents home, Cochran. The ceremony was private due to illness, with only immediate relatives present.
Friday at 4 p.m. Sowden & Lyon advertise fireworks of all sorts for sale at their store. Mothers, Sowden & Lyon also plan displays Friday afternoon July 1 to celebrate Independence Day. C. A. Spear urges Barrellodge locals to attend a meeting this evening. Mrs. S. A. Binnett and granddaughter return to Roxbury after visiting Clarence Wheaton’s home on Yor Street.
An evening schedule lists a hand concert at city hall park followed by a special city council meeting to hear protest against extending MainWy gas company service. Also planned are a Central Labor Union gathering, a Congregational lawn social, and appearances by DeNoyer and Dania Sisters at vaudeville and opera venues along with a single feature at the pay theater on Main Street.
A July 1 Burlington harbor drowning left Miss Sadie Crowns 19 and Henry Debigerrer dead after a rowboat accident at the foot of King street. Miss Anna Maquin escaped injury and helped save Crowns, while Henry Chiott rescued Maquin. both bodies were recovered nearby. Debigerrer, once employed by Shepard and Moree Lumber, left a wife and two children.
Joseph a 25 year old stone cutter drowned at 7 last evening in the Craig Richards quarry Mass. He dived from a 40 foot head way and struck water hard, sinking before surfacing. Quarry water rumored to be 60 feet deep. Search with grappling irons and raft continued after dynamite tests by George Simonett failed to raise him. Mussi was unmarried and resided at 5 Filbert street.
Princess Helen 210544 from Lebanon owner Sundaarlin faces the existing 2 07 track record held by John KR Gentry 2054. The mare races Saturday afternoon as part of a weeklong trotting meet in near pristine park conditions. Horses arrive daily and train each afternoon as rivals test the track.
