Militants strike Dublin Castle windows at noon today arresting three. In London, Mrs Festanged issued an ultimatum to David Lloyd George after he refused a deputation. Other members planned to wait in the House of Commons at 8 pm to press demands.
Manila January 28 report says sharp fighting between American troops and Moros near Jolo. A large bolo force attacked two troopers of American cavalry and a Philippine constabulary detachment, causing injuries and heavy fighting before Moros were repulsed with believed heavy losses.
New York reports Martin Sheridan, a New York policeman, regains the all around American championship amid Olympic controversy. Esther Bellows widow of George Bellows, aged about 60, was fatally burned when her apron caught fire from hot ashes in a pan carried to the cellar. Her sister Clara Ham and daughter Carrie Bellows aided but could not save her. Born Dec. 11, 1665, in Littleton, she married George S. Bellows in 1880. Survived by Elbridge Young, Clara Ham, Flora Young. she lived at Cottage Street with her daughter and previously shared the home with Attorney Everett Howe before moving to Seattle two years ago.
A barn located on a Snowmeade road between White River Junction and Hartford was destroyed by fire Sunday. Alfred Cities property was involved along with 18 tons of hay and farming implements. Police believe a tramp set the blaze.
South Reygate January 28 Caledonia A A defeated state champions Laconia 27 to 20 on Wella River floor. Gilson and Ruros led Caledonians with most baskets while Darling and Henley starred for Laconia. Final score listed Gibson Burns Henley and Finlay among scorers with Beaton as referee. Attendance 400.
Waterbury on June 28 suffered a major blaze at the Winooski Valley Creamery on Winooski Street. The building was practically destroyed, with insurance $1,000 on the structure and $500 on machinery. losses approach $4,000, largely impacting three families forced from their homes. White River Junction Jan 28 Juvelion Athletic Association beat Newport 25 to 1% with a broken hand injury sidelining a Newport player. He is hospitalized in critical condition.
Mrs. O N Granger marked five years as president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Ancient Order of Hibernians with a surprise party at 1 Merchant Street. About fifty members attended, presenting a chair, and Rev. A C Griffin spoke. Musical numbers included solos by Father Griffin, Miss Mary Carroll, Miss Ruth Humphrey, and Miss Ruth Nelson. Organizers were Mrs. J J Scott, Mrs. Agnes Williams, Mrs. Samuel Gerrard, and Mrs. W. Walker.
Mrs. Alexina Mowatt or DB Foster was arrested yesterday for selling intoxicating liquor. The court sentenced her to three months in county jail and an officer took her to Montpelier. Her husband disappeared suddenly, and Mrs. Mowatt will remain at Cheely until he returns.
