German forces extended gains on the Verdun front. A strong attack between Avecourt Wood and Dead Man's Hill succeeded on Hill 304, creating a 1,600 metre front and resulting in about 500 prisoners captured.
Berlin reported German troops stormed Hill 304 northwest of Verdun, taking about 600 prisoners and ten machine guns, while French counterattacks failed. In the Riga sector, East Prussian forces captured Russian prisoners and repelled a counter-attack. Serbian forces moved on Moglancia slopes as German and French artillery engaged on Verdun and upper Alsace fronts.
Paris reports a new government decree restricting restaurant meals to an hors d oeuvre or soup, two additional dishes, cheese and dessert.
