After a protracted illness John A. Anderson died at his East Montpelier road home Saturday evening at 9 o clock. He was born in Smaland Sweden on July 1 1870 and came to Barre in 1903 where he resided since. He married Hannah Johnson of Quincy Massachusetts on July 6 1911 and survived by his wife a son John Andrea Anderson two brothers and a sister in Sweden. He belonged to multiple fraternal orders including Green Mountain Council Royal Arcanum Harre Aerie Order of Eagles and Odd Fellows among others. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at the Brook Street Baptist mission at 2 pm with Rev John Bjork and Rev George H Holt officiating. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery.
In Boston on June 25 Daniel Hanlon 18 and his younger brother John drowned in the harbor when a gale capsized their rowboat during a driftwood search.
The Vermont State Spiritualists convention ended in Montpelier after three days of lectures and demonstrations. Officers elected include President A Ingalls Montpelier and W Hate Burlington with Hebbard Tyson and AR Resith Robe. Treas er Mrs Ellen B Wart South Hero and auditor J W Hate chaired the managers board led by Pred N Hunt Warren? Shore. Next convention date to be decided by managers.
Police in St Albena report a man named Bab harse from Myres Medistt of ot Eneaborg is charged with horse theft. The suspect, detained by officers, refuses to reveal his home address and claims not to know the prediment in Stormer. Authorities say more details will be shared by the command.
Washington D C Jan 25 The president named George W Gorman for Barre Vermont postmaster and James E Burke for Burlington Vermont postmaster Gorman has been active in local Democratic circles and was recommended for Barre by a narrow six five vote over George N Tilden He has insurance interests and Granite industry ties and formerly worked in the Barre office of the Montpelier and Wells River railroad.
A Saturday night blaze at the Durkee block on North Main street caused by a fire in a storage closet under stairs. Fire crews contained most damage to the closet and nearby tenants, with losses estimated above 10000 dollars and a high police and fire response. Nine stories and shops evacuated as flames and smoke prompted a citywide alarm and extensive investigation into the cause remain underway.
