Ambulances rushed from Wilkes-Barre to a blast at Jander colliery No. Wet of the Pennsylvania Coal Co. at Pittston. Twelve injured badly burned, five feared dead, one woman killed in Philadelphia laundry incident.
A steam mangle in the America laundry exploded in Philadelphia causing one death and several serious injuries. The blast marred a day of work as workers were exposed to a dangerous boiler room incident. The incident drew attention to safety practices in urban laundries.
The Daffy Oil Steamer Ligonier bound from Port Arthur Texas to Heverly grounded at Salem Willows Mass this morning. Crews say the vessel is not in a dangerous position and work to release her is under way.

Earle Hall aged 12 in Milford New Hampshire was accidentally shot by his 10 year old brother Carl while playing with a small rifle. The bullet entered the side and exited the back, narrowly missing the intestines. Doctors describe the wound as serious but not likely fatal. recovery hoped.
Rev. Edward Atwell, Protestant Episcopal of Western Missouri, died after months of illness. Born Red Hook New York February 18 1840, he served as rector in Burlington VT Toledo Ohio Kansas City Morgan and other parishes. The obituary notes his long clerical service and leadership roles within the church.
Bellows Falls January 25. Four large barns and 50 hens were burned on J. T. Lovell’s Rockingham farm. A farmhand left a lantern in the horse barn and it exploded. The house across the road was saved after bucket brigades fought the blaze. Damage will exceed 4500 and the barns will be rebuilt.
Capt William A Adams of Worcester Massachusetts was fatally injured when he fell from a city fire truck in front of the Mercantile fire station. He suffered a broken jaw and facial fractures, was taken to City hospital, and is not expected to live. Adams, 57, married, had served over 30 years and was the department's oldest captain.
Forton Dan reports Annie McHelde a 25 year old woman is charged with larceny of 308 dollars from William Keirstead a New Hampshire farmer who came to Boston. Keirstead met the suspect at Bowdoin Square and after attending several shows lost part of his money. Police officer Morgan arrested the woman and recovered 350 dollars at the station.
