Mutiny erupts aboard the Devonian after leaving Liverpool for Holyhead. Nineteen crew members arrested, nine of them union sailors, as non union seamen allegedly refused to obey orders. The captain diverted back to Holyhead amid police intervention.
Police pursue a gang of automobile thieves valued at 100000 in New York and other cities. Two men, John W. Sherwood an active agent for an insurance company in Philadelphia with offices here, and Charles Ruby, are held on grand larceny charges.
Washington reports Baron Makino outlined in parliament the status of onions linked to California land policy. Officials say details were restricted by diplomatic rules but seen as informative. Lawmakers considered immigration data, with optimism voiced for a new treaty to define rights and resume negotiations, though no formal request was made.
Government investigators say Mexican revolutionists are sourcing arms through Guatemala. An agent named Manuel Castillo Britte, former Campeche governor, allegedly bought shipments in New Orleans bound for the Guatemalan government. About three hundred thousand rounds of ammunition moved through the area two weeks ago. The supply was reportedly routed to Guatemala, per unnamed agents.
Townsley Wardwell Townsley a 22 year old third year architecture student and Pat Upsilon member was found with a bullet wound near Marion Cricket club. A revolver lay beside him and investigators ruled death by own hand. He had planned a trip to Germany with friend McCullough who drowned days earlier in the Delaware river. Townsley left a note to his father asking forgiveness but gave no reason.

The Rhode Island Red Club of America state branch held its annual meeting with about 70 members and cups awarded for best displays across several breeds.
Burlington Vermont becomes crowded with legal action as the murder trial of Harier Henson for the Cole killing at Essex Junction dam is slated to begin next Wednesday. Attorney General R E Brown may assist. W A Bullard and J J Enright defend Henson. W itnesses are few and the proceeding may finish the September term business. Crosward v Murphy Ting and Andrews divorce matters also move forward with hearings and witness testimony planned for next week.
An attempted assault on Crown Prince Frederick William of Germany occurred in Berlin as he alighted from a car at the palace. A man rushed the carriageway and tried to force the motor door before being overpowered by a palace sentry. The assailant is believed to be mentally deranged.
An incomplete note reports that Mrs. WH Carr won first prize at a New York show. The fragment mentions Sheilian Butters and a venue in New Jersey or New York, with garbled wording and unclear dates.
A Michigan Central passenger train bound for Chicago was stopped in Jackson by four armed robbers who boarded the car at the station. They forced the conductor and crew to surrender and rifled sleeping cars, taking clothing and small valuables from a minority of passengers. Total loot under three hundred dollars.
A one year old Burlington pupil Arthur Dole was found with a loaded 22 caliber revolver in a belt holster at Adams Street School. The weapon was confiscated, Dole was detained briefly, and the case heads to Judge Macomber in juvenile court. Authorities linked the incident to prior reports of a boy firing a weapon on Ruell Street. Dole claimed interest in Boy Scout activity as motive for arming.
In Los Angeles a 60 acre tract in the Cosahella valley is in dispute between the United States and Homer L. Goddard after John T. King filed a contest alleging faulty publication of filing notices. The chain shows Margaret Axson Elliott and Mrs Woodrow Wilson involved in transfers. if King prevails, ownership reverts. The land lies near the Salton Sea, appraised changes noted with accusations of title guarantees.

Burlington hosts the De Goesbriand Council No. 27 Knights of Columbus anniversary banquet with over 100 attendees including visiting knights. Supre me Knight James A. Flaherty of Philadelphia and state and local clergy spoke of the order’s work, church relations, and an endowment fund for the Catholic University of America. The order has grown from 240,000 members to about 1,600,000 in recent years.
Charles Johnson's Inuit store at North and Nort Winomeki avenue burned early yesterday. He escaped with injuries after awakening Assistant Chief Stack nearby. Fire caused about 31000 in total losses, split between building damage and contents. The flat occupants faced smoke damage and insurance covered the two named fires.
A home wedding unites Mise Mildred C. Gregware and James S. Duncan in Wolock with Rev. T Duncan Salmond performing the ring ceremony. Chief Gladding of the fire department extends thanks to all who served this morning. Those who helped shared coffee with the crew and printer, Dr and Mrs. Mire, O. G. Stickney and Miss Marion Stickney, A. W. Faithrie, FP. K. Beard, and the street department members who lent aid. Firemen praised for their work, as unsettled weather brings warmer weight and possible Saturday snow with moderate south and southwest winds.
Chelsea Mass January 23 Alfred Gialent aged 10 was shot by William B Johnson after an alleged burglary attempt at the Johnson home. The boy was taken to hospital with a serious lip wound. Johnson was arrested and police say nothing was stolen.
William Kimberly Frank E Wright and Bernard M Max of the Appalachian Club traveled to Burlington for a 50 mile snow trek across Vermont’s Green Mountain Sub Trail toward Mount Mansfield. They plan to camp with heavy sleeping bags, carry provisions for a week, use shelters found along the way, and return to Burlington by the nearest route. Each man wore Indian beat scarves and carried a rifle camera and a searchlight.
Burlington reports a note from Springfield claiming a man named George Edgerton killed himself at a mission. Local police found no matching Burlington resident. clothing from The American Clothing Co. linked to a purchaser planning to go to North Carolina. A photo was not identified to any Burlington inhabitant.
Fire gutted the City hotel in Barre early this morning trapping 15 guests who escaped with frostbite or minor injuries. The blaze started near the closet on the first floor and raged for hours as firefighters battled the cold and saved most occupants. Insurance covers about half the estimated 10 000 loss.
A pleasant evening at the Loyal Green Mouse hall featured Deputy David Joll speaking on the M. I. worldwide good works followed by performances by the Harmony Six and Alex Aitken. The event, organized by J Walker and colleagues, included dancing until midnight and refreshments.
The Mellowers with Barte Woman's club announce Benjamin Chapin will appear Tuesday evening in Life in the White House a four act play written by Chapin. The event promises Lincoln likeness and humor and urges parents to bring children to see this fresh entertainment.
The St John’s court Xi Tivholle Hee of Foresters held their annual installation at the Knights of Columbus hall. Officers installed include Chief Ranger Jiles Papin and several others. Deputy Chief Ranger Thresault presided. Afterward a Willet luncheon was served and entertainment centered on a 40 competition where Burke and Loranger defeated Burke and Kelley 20 to 6.
A northbound freight on the Central Vermont line neared MM Street yesterday when a second freight on a side track bound for Burlington collided. Signals stopped both trains. several cars were damaged and doors ripped. The wreckage scattered wood, but the trains proceeded to their destinations.
