Official notice from Rome dated January 20 reports Montenegro has rejected all Austrian terms and fighting has resumed along the front. King Nicholas remains with his troops to reorganize defenses as Montenegro notified Italy through its premier.

Col Tilsley urged snow removal costs for park walks and offered to meet expenses if arrangements made.
At the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission meeting in Pittsburg seven teen heroes were recognized. Silver medals were awarded in four cases and bronze medals in thirteen. Nine heroes lost their lives and pensions totaling 1,920 dollars a year were granted to four dependents. Additional grants include 23,000 dollars in trust to others and 2,000 dollars for educational purposes. Other awards totaling 4,500 dollars were approved, pending beneficiary consent.
An elderly Meriden resident died after her clothing caught fire while placing cod in a stove. A neighbor, who tried to help, sustained fatal burns before flames were gone. Mise Prost, born in Meriden August 14 1819, daughter of Dr Eiiae and Mary Roberts, attended Kimball Union Academy in 1840 and is survived by Mrs Nathan Andrews and Julia Frost.

Mrs Clare Paine Calef died at her Washington home at about seven this morning after a period of heart trouble. She was about 47, widow of Quincy Calef, and had lived in Washington for years. An active Universalist church worker, she leaves brothers Scott Paine of Washington and Mrs Oscar Waterman of Barre Town. Funeral Friday at the Universalist church with Rev Albert Smith of Williamstown officiating. Burial in the cemetery.

Gustavus L. Lawrence lifelong Montpelier resident and long time pressman for Argus and Patriot dies at home on Fullettos Avenue aged 94 after years of poor health. Born August 12 1949 to Charles and Nabby Reed Lawrence he worked 36 years at the Montpelier plant. Survived by four brothers Leonard Artemax Warren and two others and a sister Sarah Cummings. He enjoyed Bible reading and religious literature and awaited the call. Funeral arrangements pending.
Funeral services for William S Abbott of North Main street who've died at City Hospital after a several weeks illness were held at A W Badger & Company mortuary chapel. Rev J W Barnett officiated. Bearers included Walter Abbott Chester Walker Orel Tarrett Cabot and Charles A Badger. Interment followed in the family lot at Winnwood cemetery.
