Paris dispatch says Russia may join the peace conference but the makeup of the Russian delegation is not arranged. It is likely to be settled at the next meeting before Congress, determining which faction will be admitted to seats with the Allies.
Paris January 14 detailed dispatches describe the peace conference focus on the League of Nations and representation for Russia. French and American leaders adopt a joint communique plan and use a public agent to relay selected details. Wilson praises French tweaks to delegation numbers and transparency while French Premier Lloyd George spokes cautiously on secret diplomacy.
Paris Jan 13 five nations France Great Britain United States Italy and Japan will each send five representatives to the peace congress. The decision was agreed upon by the premier council after preliminary work on organising the peace procedure. Brasil gets three delegates Belgium Serbia Greece Mojand Czecho Slovakia Rumania China two each. Portugal and other nations breaking off relations with Germany get one. Britain dominions Canada Australia South Africa India represented separately with two each New Zealand one delegate. Consideration of the question of Russian representation postponed.
Paris report says President Wilson weighs a speaking tour after returning home. He would visit major cities to explain Paris proceedings and rally public support for his Peace Treaty aims. Allies see growing popular backing in the United States for England France and allied aims.
Reports from Copenhagen and Berlin claim Spartacist leader Karl Liebknecht fled from Berlin to Leipsic then to Denmark using a passport from the Danish legation. Warrants issued for Liebknecht, Luxemburg, and Biehborn. Berlin seeks to disarm the population as royal troops search for arms. In Chicago the National Labor Congress convened to press for a new trial for Thomas J. Mooney and Warren Billings, raising an estimated $100,000 defense fund.
Washington reports Colonel George E. Stewart commanding American troops in the Archangel area of Russia sent a dispatch stating he conducted a personal tour of the frontline. He praised the discipline valor and conduct of about 2000 men and noted their clothing equipment and overall condition as satisfactory.
Charlow KE Chapin, ex city editor of the New York Evening World, admitted guilt to second degree murder for killing his wife on Sept 16. He was sentenced to a state prison term of 20 years to life after a court found him sane following a commission assessing his mental condition.
George R. Sheldon, longtime New York Republican figure and former national committee treasurer, died from injuries after a mine accident near Dowell, Illinois. Born Brooklyn 1857, Harvard graduate, he led WH. Wain & Co in Wall Street and held directorships in 18 firms including American Locomotive and Bethlehem Steel. He served as New York state GOP treasurer and was a 1900 Republican national convention delegate.
Washington January 14 The Urensport Manchuria has sailed from ae for Re reat with mortan 4 troops and the transport Canada for Boston with about 120 aboard. The Manchuria carries 312th sanitary train and ordnance detachments en route to Camp Dix. The 419th Pennsylvania unit and 43% Moseneho units move among 13 camps. The Canada brings 23 balloon company for Fort Slocum and camps Meade and Ocean. The 2d infantry battalion and machine gun units of the 83rd division are assigned for early movement.
Washington January reports Bolshevik agitation in the United States shows little political threat, mainly economic in New York and within the law. Ernest Hastings of Groton died of heart disease aged unknown. Mrs. Ernest Hastings died at Groton home after a year’s illness. Erma Nayen Hautinger, born Barre 1873, widow of Sophronia Noyes, survived by son Karl. funeral at Groton and Barre interment planned.
In Washington January 1 the Senate faced a possible delay on the $10,000,000 European relief appropriation. The House passed the measure by a large margin after President Witton demanded prompt action. The bill, now with the Senate Appropriations Committee chaired by Majority Leader Martin, awaits further information on the fund’s prospective disposition. Martin telegraphed Secretary Lansing in Paris for details.
Geneva reports a Luxembourgeois republic proclaimed and then order restored after French military intervention. Grand Duchess Marie Antoinette fled briefly under guard while Parliament convened in a disorderly session. The upheaval stems from opposition to German influence and a German crown prince connection.
Little Rock January 14. By a vote of yes to one the Arkansas Senate adopted the resolution ratifying the federal prohibition amendment, which passed the House yesterday. Arkansas becomes the 26th state to ratify.
The Vermont Legislature session names chairmen for key panels in both chambers. Notable figures include Rep. Alexander of St Albans City heading Appropriations and Sen. Schoff of Franklin chairing Appropriations in the Senate, with numerous assignments across judiciary, education, finance, and other panels.
Rev. J Emile Pariead, recently transferred from Winewaki to St Syl Westere in Graniteville, will begin duties next Sunday. He is a 40 year old native of Kaper Junc tion, educated at St Hyacinth Canada, and ordained 15 years ago. The Windoski church has prospered under his leadership.
The annual meeting at EL Smith & Co elected Donald Smith as president and general manager. Directors named include Donald Smith Angus A Smith Major H Nelson Jackson and Hollister Jackson. Officers chosen were Donald Smith as president and general manager, Nelson Jackson as vice president, and William I Wheaton as secretary treasurer.
Washington D C Jan 14 Hearings began on a Burnett of Alabama bill to recall immigration for four years after the peace treaty signing. The Hanan immigration committee opened proceedings as part of postwar policy considerations.
Court adjourned a session after agreeing on four continuations in the KL Gomen insurance case. Jurors departed for home as trial readiness waned. Blanchard Buck and Ring of Montpelier were not excused, their travel expenses paid. Cases against Providence Washington Insurance, Caledonian Insurance of Scotland, and The Patriotic Insurance Co Limited were to be tried together. The Northfield fire and other actions drew qualified witnesses and attorneys away. Clinton jury A member AL Bianchi prevailed in a related case. The court urged haste on business as divuron and chancy matters loom. two new filings appeared. Monday saw petitions by H C Bolles et al against Montpelier to lay out a highway by the court’s commission.
An amended petition will be argued tomorrow morning in the Supreme Court over disbarment proceedings against Ernest O'Brien of Uiland. Earlier, complete arguments concluded in the Henry Clement v. Rutland Country Club matter and in Addie A. Wilder v. John C. Wilder for separate maintenance. Subsequent arguments began on the Ara Dutton estate case in Washington county, appealed from upper county court. The Rutland county case Cafluri v. Marra was continued, as were reviews of Hemmera regarding the Vermont board of medical registration and its patient practice cues. Continues affect Mariana Weiss in Orleans county and Lemaire v. Gardner in the same county.

Recent acquisitions include portraits of the Hoek and Kinsman families a 1780s James Smith home image a Civil War battle flag and a trumpet from England dating to about 1780. Gifts welcomed and future historical programs are planned for public viewing.

Windham county lawmakers back ex Attorney General J G Barber of Brattleboro to fill the Vermont Superior Court vacancy after E J Waterman limits, with Senate bills and local measures debated on railroads, taxes, sewer liability, and voter qualifications including women's suffrage.
A small ceremony was held at 64 Summer Street this morning at 10 in the presence of immediate family. Miss Adgio Bianchi attended the bride, while Charles Ambrosini came from Boston. The bride wore mouse gray attire and corsage, and recently worked as a clerk in Homer Fitts company store. The couple plans to reside in New York and Washington after the ceremony.
