Sir Frederick Edwin Smith told the New York State Bar Association Britain will fight Germany to the death whatever the cost of blood and treasure and mortgage on the future. Three bodies were recovered Lars Milo Mrs Eveleth Miss Luella H Brown, with one more feared buried. About a score injured, many with broken limbs, as two hundred workers were at the plant amid icy streets and driving rain.
In Southington Cona dan Janos Harrison, a 16 year old girl named Phiebe, shot and killed her father as he tried to chastise his elder daughter Dorothy. Phiebe was arrested and awaits a coroner inquiry.
Distriet Deputy Helen Stevens P N G installed the past grand pin and officers for Granite City lodge of LO C Ly My 0. Helen Stevens received a post grand pin from Eva Gamble as retiring PLN I. Two women from Washington County sent into United States service today. Herbert W. Gallup formerly of Franklin and employed by E. S. Bailey & Co in Montpelier joins medical corps to report at Fort Oglethorpe Georgia. Peter Sandi of East Montpelier enlists as a private in the First Infantry at Camp Greene Charlotte. On leaving Montpelier the pair were honored by the Montpelier Red Cross with a soldier’s kit including a sweater helmet pajamas socks and more.
Fire destroyed the Nelson Murray envenill and butter tub factory in West Lincoln killing property valued at about 8500. Firefighters from Bristol aided but could not save the building. The blaze disrupted local freight traffic on the New England States Limited line, yet overall operations remained unsettled amid a winter storm.

The Barre millinery shop Nourse and Wilson has been bought by Mrs. Bertha Beattie and Mrs. Alexander Duncan. Beattie will run the millinery, embroidery, yarn and art goods, with hat trimmers from New York, while the Bethlehem novelty and art store continues under the new partnership. Nourse and Wilson, Blanche Nourse and Miss Georgin Wilson, have not finalized plans.
Burlington High School overwhelmed Spaulding High in a season opener at the YMCA, winning 41 to 20 as Burlington leveraged fast play and accurate shooting to seize early control. The Barre visitors hosted a crowded scene with bets on the intercity championship and a program of games and festivities surrounding the event.
