Accident at J. K. Pirie Quarry Claims Life of Philip Ferris
Philip Ferris was killed yesterday afternoon at the J. K. Pirie quarry in Graniteville when a 100-pound rock, loosened by thaw from an 80-foot ascent, fell and struck him in the back, breaking his backbone and causing fatal internal injuries. Nearby workers escaped harm. Ferris was carried to the surface and died about 4 o'clock. He came from Concord, N H, aged 20, leaving a large family and a young household with Mrs Alfred Jenkins. Funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Jenkins home with interment in Willson cemetery Tarre Town.
