Paris January 10 The American army and navy Y M C A in France issued a statement that it is not accepting any men eligible for military service. Men currently serving who are subject to the draft have been asked, with army approval, to remain at their posts until their draft numbers are ended.

Secretary Daniels releases official account by Lt. Cmdr Bagley of the German submarine torpedoing the American destroyer Jacob Jones on December 6. Two officers and 61 men died. Goddard graduate Private Brown class of 10M and former Williston resident died of pneumonia at Camp Greene, Charlotte, N C. Enlisted last summer he was prominent at Goddard and well regarded by students and faculty. He leaves two brothers, one a chemist in Baltimore, to accompany the remains to Williston. funeral planned for Monday or Tuesday.
Former Barre and Plainfield resident Herman H. Dewey died at his Framingham Massachusetts home at age 66 after a long illness. Born in Montpelier in 1807 he ran a Plainfield mercantile business, later represented National Life Insurance in Framingham for about twenty years. Survived by wife Katherine Fisher Dewey and son Ralph P. Dewey. daughter Mary Luthera Dewey died in childhood. Funeral service slated for Saturday at 2:20 p.m. at the Framingham home with burial in Edgell Grove cemetery.
