A clash on Jolo Island leaves 26 Moros dead as they ambush American troops. Lieutenant McGee of the Second Cavalry is wounded by a gunshot. General Pershing, commander in Mindanao, says the fight likely ends Moro opposition to U S rule on Jolo.
Strikebreakers from Providence returned to work in place of 2,500 striking longshoremen in Boston. Loading was slow as crews were inexperienced. Reports say a general sympathetic strike by 3,500 freight clerks and handlers at the Boston terminals may be settled tonight.
Washington reports resignations from Dan Pervii and H Pease of Burlington Vermont as clerks of Senator Dillingham's committee. Pease recently admitted to the bar and will move to New York to join a leading legal firm. Webb to succeed Pease, then Herbert A Pierce to take the clerkship. Pierce has arrived and begun duties.
New York January 11 W R Holligan board member of Holligan and company was expelled from the stock exchange today by the governors order. The expulsion follows alleged misrepresentations made when he obtained membership nine years ago.
A Russian steamer named Russ foundered today in a gale in the Black Sea. All 172 passengers and crew are reported lost. The ship was en route from Galatz to Odesa. Among the passengers was Carl Anunoff, newly appointed Russian consul-general at Galatz, with his family aboard.
The United States cruiser Birmingham reached Hamilton Bermuda and the destroyer McCall lay nearby after the fleet’s gale disruptions. The Birmingham’s report confirms McCall’s presence and the fleet’s safety following the storm that caused several ships to go missing.
Princeton New Jersey January 11 1920 Dr John Grier Hibben Stuart Professor of logic was today elected president of Princeton University by the board of trustees He succeeds Wendell Wilson who resigned the presidency in 1900 to pursue the governorship of New Jersey.

In Rutland a morning blaze from an oil heater trapped a family of four. Parents Samy and Mrs Greenland and their five year old Bennie suffered extensive burns, while 11 year old Fannie and 2 year old Israel escaped unharmed. Miss Mary Russell, daughter of Senator HT Russell of Shrewsbury, a Rutland High School student, contracted smallpox. Rev George Th Holt of Jamestown Rhode Island will become pastor of the First Baptist Church Barre arriving February 1. He will preach his first sermon February 4 succeeding Rev W E Braisted who moved to Oneida New York. Holt, age 30, is a Kansas university and Newton Theological seminary graduate and Brown University postoperative student. He is an accomplished musician with vocal and instrumental talent and is unmarried.
December term of Calidonia county court adjourned after hearing Nose Cushman vs Oscar Cushman on divorce. Judge Miles ruled for the defendant academy in a tax case involving St Johnsbury Academy property. case sent to the supreme court for final adjudication in February.
Waterbury January 11 funeral services for George Greeley who died at White River Junction. The service will be at the Waterbury Center Methodist church Friday afternoon at 1 30 o clock with Rev Steer officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery. Greeley lived most of his life in Waterbury prior to moving to White River Junction three years ago. He leaves four children, eleven grandchildren, and two sisters. He was a former selectman, first master of the Waterbury Grange, and a Mason.
Roscoe Woodward of Mast Montpelier led a vigorous defense for Kimeelt in the probate court at Montpelier today. The proceedings focused on whether Kimeelt was adjudged inebriate or merely arraigned on charges, with Waterbury mentioned in relation to the case.

Alexander Melend a quarryman was killed instantly at Kt Smith Co quarries when a five ton stone toppled and crushed him after he stepped behind it despite warnings. Derrickmen McLeod and another worker were nearby. McLeod avoided danger once but was later struck as the stone shifted. Health Officer Dr Bailey viewed the remains before burial arrangements, with services planned at Graniteville Presbyterian Church tomorrow at 2 PM and interment at Wilson Cemetery.
This afternoon Granite lodge No 35 A M opened the annual sixth Masonic district meeting at 2 PM with delegates from Montpelier Northfield Waterbury Wallingford North Montpelier CabÂs of Ant. Grand lodge officers Tuory Te Ballon David K Lott James Pirie and Rev Charles Partridge attended. Graniteville conferred the fellowcraft degree on a candidate. Between sixty and twenty Masons attended. At 6 PM the Ladies of Isis chapter No 33 C E S served. Montpelier Aurora Lodge No 22 will confer the M M degree at Swarloc with about 300 Masons expected. The grand lecturer later reviewed the day’s work.
Miss Helen BR of Jolmaton married Alexander Fidward at 77 Well Street yesterday evening. Rev Duncan Salmond officiated in a quiet ceremony attended by close family. Bride’s sister Margaret Johnston and brother William Johnston participated. residents return to 77 Chont after a brief wedding trip.
