The British premier is busy in London reshaping his cabinet delaying talks with premiers. Orlando is set to return to Italy where his presence is deemed necessary for ongoing negotiations and reconstruction.
Paris reports detail President Wilson’s informal conference with Premier Lloyd George and Italian Premier Orlando delayed by cabinet work. A French meeting at Stephen Pichon’s office aims to settle procedural details before Wilson’s arrival, outlining a possible phased peace plan and League of Nations concept.
Official notice from Parks on January nine reports the council of ministers approved the French nominations for the peace congress. Georges Clemenceau premier Stephen Pichon foreign minister Laurien Kote finance minister Andre Turdien high commissioner to the United States Jules Cambone former ambassador at Berlin Paul Durasta ambassador to Switzerland will be secretary of the French delegation.

A blast at the G. R. McAbee Powder Company's plant in Ralls Ahre miles from Tunnelton last night shattered windows for miles. One-thousand pounds of dynamite destroyed two main buildings. Watchman and fireman, alone in the plant, were blown out but uninjured. Panic spread to nearby towns as residents fled homes. Damages are not yet estimated.
The army transport Koningin der Nederlanden docked in Newport News with 3 000 troops after engine trouble delayed its arrival from Le Havre France. On board were two Marine companies the 125th field artillery regiment Brigadier General S M Foote and staff, and units from the 5th and 7th regiments.
Major General Clare RK Edwards, commander of the northeastern department, has cancelled many payments for the immediate future and, by order of his physician, is staying in bed at his home. His office notes a heavy cold though not seriously ill. He has had little rest since returning from France where he led the 26th division in tough fighting.
Paris reports the German government has opened negotiations with Polish leaders in Poznań as the war rages, with hopes for a peace understanding. The War Department announced two U S soldiers, Privates Andrew Melinaney and Arthur Heon, have been returned from German camps and are now in Prune.
Washington January 9 House Rules Committee refused to report a vote granting privileged status to the European relief bill requested by President Wilson for European relief work. The panel voted 103 to 0 against the measure, delaying action on the funding bill.

The Barre lodge No. 188 New England Order of Protection held its annual election and installation last evening followed by a banquet. Officers elected include Warden Scott, Vice Warden Bertha Nae, Secretary Spear, Financial Secretary E M Spear, Treasurer Taft, and others. Grand Warden Lal Bullock officiated. ceremony witnessed by Northfield Montpelier East Barre and Graniteville members. Afterward, a social at Cafe Shepard ended the pleasant gathering.
Charles E. Hersey of 171 Washington Street died suddenly at home yesterday after an illness dating to last spring. Born in Barre March 8 1870 he spent his life here as a stonecutter. He worked for Barclay Bros seven years and Jones Bros ten years prior. Survived by wife Mirea th Hersey two daughters Verna and Helen and two sons Edmond and Alex. Funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m. at his home with Rev Lipsky officiating. burial in Hogue cemetery.

The annual election of officers for the Barre Merchants association was held in the rooms of the United Manufacturers' association with a large turnout. Officers were elected and plans discussed for future welfare, including refreshments after business. The trustees listed include A S W Badger Dest Morse T J Shea and J Travers. Frank W Jackson was elected secretary and treasurer though Sir Moore declined duties after being informed of the election.
