Ex president Theodore Roosevelt is reported dead in bed with rheumatism likely affecting the heart as the probable cause. Grief over the loss of his son Quentin Roosevelt, killed in an air battle, is cited as a prominent contributing factor.
Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, former president, died in his sleep at Sagamore Hill Oyster Bay after a severe rheumatic attack that began on New Year’s Day. Mrs Roosevelt found him dead at about 4 15 a m and requested privacy for burial. Telegra ms of condolence poured in as relatives and aides abroad were informed.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Stafford who died Wednesday morning in Burlington were conducted Saturday afternoon at her parents home on Webster Street. A large gathering of relatives and friends attended, including members of the Order of Rebekahs. Prayers were said at the residence at 2 o clock followed by services at the First Presbyterian Church at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Edgar Oresland. Rebekahs escorted in a body and performed their rite at the church. Bearers were John Meluyo Jr James Black James W Y Caw Taney Levie John Te Maxam and Elwin Williams. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery.
R Nelson Darling of Bradford has been chosen to succeed Clinton Adams of Thetford as Orange County judge. Adams was an assistant judge and his resignation led Gov H B Graham to appoint Darling. Darling, a retired businessman from Bradford, is a former lumberman and recently elected assistant judge in Orange County. The governor’s acceptance followed Adams’s move to the Senate.
