Drowned saving friend in Northboro pond tragedy
In Worcester on January 5, 12 year old Charles De Barbour drowned while attempting to rescue companion Lawrence who had fallen through ice. The two boys crossed a pond edge when the ice failed. De Barbour reached Lawrence and grabbed his hood as the ice broke again. He disappeared beneath the surface and body was recovered. Lawrence was saved by a passerby who ran from shore. a witness saw the drowning from the shore.
