Mexico City reports increased confidence in the Huerta regime as rebels waver and many leaders consider surrender. Zapata remains defiant while Orozco’s forces align with the government. Carranza holds Monterey area but Trevino positions near Saltillo. U.S. officials promise frontier troop protection as Mexico moves toward stability.
February 27 dispatch reports about 2000 U S soldiers encamped in Galveston with a thousand more in trains and yards. The 7th Infantry and components of the 6th Infantry along with the 1st Infantry units arrived, forming the fifth brigade. Camp sites for the fourth and sixth brigades are being laid out at Texas City under Wig Tasker TH Blive who assumed command at Fort Sam Houston. In Sonora the congress accepted the Huerta provisional government and the Mexican governor's office will be vacant as Maytorena supporters go to the hills.

Padilla leads 500 rebels toward Fronteras as others mobilize in northern Sonora. Cananea and Agua Prieta host large rebel groups amid garrison reductions and requests for Mexican reinforcements.
Lomlon February 27 militant suffragettes linked to arson in public parks face penal servitude as Public Prosecutor Humphreys seeks trial for Lithian Lanton and Miss Locke. Both arrested for burning a refreshment pavilion. Miss Locke attended today’s hearing while Miss Lanton began a hunger strike in prison and was briefly released on health grounds. Miss Locke was forcibly fed after also starting a hunger strike.
St. Petersburg February 27. It is alleged confirmation has reached here that the Turkish government has expressed willingness to surrender the fortress of Adrianople. Russia declines to back Bulgaria in demanding a war indemnity from Turkey.

Duffy Lewis accepts the contract offered by the Red Sox and will go to Hot Springs to train, despite earlier resignations and rumors.
Somersworth N H February 27 several people on their way home narrowly avoided gunfire when a revolver duel broke out among Greeks on Washington Street. Satios Bagetakos known as Sam was arrested. Miss Cote says one man was pushed into the street and fired at, seven or eight shots were heard. Officer Labonte pursued a fleeing Greek, who dropped the revolver and was captured. Bagetakos says John Loukakos fired first in revenge for a prior knife incident with Loukakos’ brother. The case to be heard in superior court Thursday morning.
New York report quotes President Barrow denying a players strike over the entry limit. He says most clubs signed, Jersey City exception, as delays with Thomas and Fogarty persisted. He notes salaries were too high and uniform pay could balance strength across teams. The arbitration board's third member cited needs for 1915 labor issues.
Elizabeth Woodburd Thompson, aged 112, former resident of Troy New York, died yesterday at Saratoga Springs. Born in New London she was a direct descendant of Connecticut governor Gordon Saltonstall of 1780. Her grandfather Captain William Thompson died in the Danbury raid. She retained faculties and was active in late life.

An elderly man, Mr. Waite, died last night from extensive burns suffered when a lamp exploded in his bedclothes at his daughter Mrs. Warren’s house on the Worces ter branch road near Montpelier. He had moved from Georgia eight years ago to live with his daughter and was fond of fruit culture, having written for agricultural papers. He leaves his daughter and a brother, Oxewr Waite, of Springfield.
Dover New Hampshire February 27 192? after more than an hour the jury found Roy G W Fernald of Rollinsford guilty of attacking Mrs Noel Pens at her home on December 8 in the night Fernald testified claiming a broken knife blade found at Mrs Pres home resulted from an earlier visit to Pray house and that he broke the knife while examining a smashed window The verdict ends a trial in the superior court with the defendant explaining the blade in his possession at arrest.
Timothy Adams Wheelock aged 83 died at 11 19 AM yesterday at his son’s home 120 College Street. A longtime plumbing and heating contractor in the city with a 60 year career he suffered a January illness and declined for three weeks. Born June 18 1882 in Waterville he learned his trade with Tavae Dow and later operated his own firm becoming well known statewide. He is survived by wife Lucy Baldwin of Hinesburg son Harry Wheelock and a sister Mrs Maurin Frederick with a half sister Mrs George Farnham of Brooklyn NY. The funeral will be Friday at 2 40 PM from his home with Rev LC Savart, burial in Lake View Cemetery.
Brigham, newly appointed commissioner of agriculture, launches a countywide effort against the brown tailed moth though he does not assume the role until March 1. The affected district runs along the east side of the state from Hartford to Sutton, Bradford showing the worst impact. Two men are already clipping nests and more work is planned. Howard Benor, 16, of Unkersfield Reb, was wounded while rabbit hunting Tuesday. He and two companions gave conflicting accounts of the incident. Benor was shot in the arm near the elbow and is hospitalized at St. Albans in serious condition.
Thomas Cochran of Cabot appeared before a justice of the peace and waived examination on a charge of shooting a deer. He was bound over to the March term of Washington County Court with bond posted by Edward DeMerritt. Cochran was arrested yesterday by Deputy Shereen Morrison on a warrant issued by State's Attorney Ward Carver. The incident reportedly occurred November 2, 2012, the final day of the open deer season.
Funeral services were held at St Monica church for Mrs Mary Coleman Armstrong of 57 Berlin Street. The interment followed at Catholic Cemetery on Beckley Street. The funeral service was conducted by Rev A Griffin with relatives Deter Armstrong James Sullivan Patrick Armstrong and Z Relcher attending.
Franklin Deming of Woodsville New Hampshire died February 27 after ten days of illness in Wells River Vermont. A resident of Wells River for years he was linked to the Deming Clark firm and was active in the social and business life of the village. Private services will be held Friday.
The funeral for Mrs Frank A Phillips of Northfield will be Friday afternoon in Northfield following a surgical operation. She died at Mary Fletcher hospital in Burlington Tuesday evening. She is survived by her husband and two small children and by her parents Mr and Mrs Valeri Silver of Burlington. The body was moved from Burlington yesterday.
Funeral services for Millard Stranahan Jr took place at his parents' Main Street home in Waterbury with the Rev W L Belcott officiating. Pallbearers included Harold Atkins Gay Hele ly Leon Sheldon Bart Evens and Max Ayers. Burial followed in the village cemetery. A labor-socialist meeting was planned at the Laar-Soe parts with carpenters hall open for a gathering of ward committee and friends led by chairman Thammas Nyelwhe and secretary Ales Urwanide.
