The Morning and engine plunged over an embankment near Van Horn, Des Moines February 26. Engineer Brown of the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Overland Limited was killed, fireman escaped unharmed, and all passengers avoided serious injury as the engine and tender derailed and tumbled down the embankment.
Martin B. Han, a Dartmouth graduate and Theta Delta Chi member, was severely injured on Second Avenue near 85th Street. The funeral for Lion L. Cole, partner at B W Hooker and Co, who died yesterday afternoon, was held at the Universalist church with Reverend Downey presiding and Reverend Poole assisting. The Knights of Pythias attended. no flowers were requested. Born August 30, 1875 in East Hardwick, Cole spent years in Cabot and Hardwick before joining Hooker in Barre. He is survived by his wife Santa White, their four year old daughter Helen, and one sister Mrs Lawson of Rochester.
John Scampini died yesterday afternoon at his home on Bath Street after several months of liver disease. He was about 60, formerly lived in Boston, worked as a granite cutter and briefly drove an express tram. He married Miss Stary Galipon and leaves four daughters and two sons, the eldest 10. Surviving siblings reside nearby. The funeral will be held at 10 o clock Sunday morning at the late home.
The funeral of the late Hiram Carleton probate judge of Washinton County was held this afternoon at Bethany church in Montpelier. A large number of court officers State Bar Association members and local officials attended. The courthouse closed for the service and a mourning sign marked the probate office door. The sermon was preached by Rev Stanley F Momfield with music by Whittree’s string quartet. Bearers were Washington County Bar Association members and local officials from Montpelier Barre and Mount Cemetery workers attended at Mount Cemetery.

Paris February 26 Garan Dache renowned cartoonist and star of Prenee's en Seenoak maeeeest died in Paris from heart failure. The Russian born artist gained fame for his cartoons in Figaro and long ranked as France's leading caricaturist.
