In Boston on February 24 Judge Braley issued a temporary injunction against the carpenters district council and related parties over a labor dispute at the First Church of Christ Scientist. The Aberthaw Construction Company seeks to delay work while claiming union demands and threatened strikes risk breaking the contract with church directors.
London advices report a Vanderbilt party mobbed in Italy after a carriage incident. A Mr Vanderbilt was attacked by a crowd believing danger to him, a revolver was drawn but disarmed by several men before use. Gendarmes rescued the party and Mrs Vanderbilt was sent to a hotel. the boy was not seriously hurt.
Geneva reports that a Swiss boat maker named Marshall from Sion laid claim to the fortune of the late American merchant Marshall Field. The claim asserts Field fled to Switzerland in 1841. The government referred the claim to its minister in Washington.
Toston February 24 speakers at the annual Newints Ansociation of the Hota dhets fraternity banquet at Youngs hotel criticized current football rules and defended the game. President Eliot of Harvard presented the annual report. Brown and Dartmouth figures supported calls for rule changes. About 300 attendees from Amherst Wesleyan Bowdoin Dartmouth Yale and the University of Michigan participated. Officers elected included Prentien Jobin Bates secretary and Clarence Newton treasurer James B. Smith serving.
A Vermont obituary notes Orlando Wooster of Rutland, a railroad veteran who retired in December after a long career. Born in Middletown he studied law at the Vermont bar but never pursued practice.
A Ryegate resident died from injuries suffered Thursday morning after an accident near Fraser. Reports say a derrial amulgar place caused the fatality as onlookers noted the time around five o'clock. The Hon. Augustius P. Hunton, born 1816 in Hyde Park, marked his 90th birthday in Bethel by undergoing extensive dental work to maintain chewing ability. Rutland February 24 A mass meeting of stone cutters marble workers and granite gutteres is called for this evening at Wonders hall. Thousands are employed in these industries which back the state’s prosperity and a strike or strike movement looms. The demand is for shorter hours and higher wages per hour. Vermont Marble Company, tied to the Proctor interests, is targeted by labor leaders who hope Fletcher D Proctor can be swayed before the election.

Gambier Ohio February 24 A blaze at Kenyon Military Academy wiped out four buildings. Three students are missing and three others were severely injured as narrow escapes were reported from the fire.
Plymouth report says the paper mill of J. E. Henry and Sons at Lincoln twenty miles north of Plymouth burned today. The loss is estimated at $150,000. Fire crews fought the blaze but the mill stood fully involved. No injuries reported.
Burlington reports a fire at Byron Fe Johnson's Williston village premises destroying barns and tenement with a 4500 loss and 2000 insurance. Thirty-two cattle five horses hay tools and machinery burned as Johnson slept in his nightclothes. The blaze reportedly started by a match dropped by a man.
A transcripted report states that officer Sameer eo, a Holtoy station agent, faced two writs from authorities. He sought a job on the Vermont railroad in Canada and asked for a statement of his account as Bolton station agent so the company could be paid. It notes a deficit and that about $5 was left with the St Armand station agent to cover shortages.
Deputy Sheriff Fred Be Howley of New Haven pursued Rev. Speak Tomlin in Jericho after a complaint from Tomlin's daughter Mary Hoste. The death of Alex Robertson, former head of the Barre Granite Cutters' National Union, was announced from Quincy. Robertson lived in Barre for years and was active in union matters and local politics. He left Barre for Toronto years ago and his death location remains unclear. He was 20 when he started in granite work and later held positions at Jones Front Plant and Bar clay Bros. shad. He was connected with the Sacislict party and was described as a strong union advocate.
Funeral services for Mrs. E. P. Olds were conducted at her Sabees street residence with Rev. C. O. Conner and Rev. W. A. Kinle officiating. The house was crowded with relatives and friends, and Mrs. M. D. Lamb sang two hymns. Interment followed in Elmwood family plot. pallbearers included Prof. Austin Tuttle, De. In bankruptcy court at Montpelier four cases were heard by Referee Bi H Deavitt. Leland L Kent of North Judlin had liabilities of $645 and assets $291 with $275 exempt. Fred J Gould of Montpelier had liabilities $375 and Burton E Bailey was chosen trustee in his case. Donald J of Barre showed liabilities $507 with no unexempted assets and no trustee appointed. Willis A Wright of Barre had liabilities $406 with no unexempted assets and no trustee appointed. Bailey of Montpelier was chosen trustee in Kent case.
In Burlington on February 24 three bankruptcy petitions were filed in federal court. One involuntary petition is by Olin H Wiltz of St Athans claiming debts of 254 with assets of 100 exempt. Other petitioners include B L Dickenson of Cambridge with 245 debt and 100 assets exempt. Creditors listed: McIntosh Co of Springfield 457.08, Burlington Drug Co 102,585, Kimball & Co 20. Debts and assets are noted as exempt where stated.
Col C M Reownell announces a March 1 gathering for officers of the regiment at Barre Armory with Major General A J Stobbart to attend. Dress uniforms expected, a reception and banquet will follow and nearly every officer is slated to attend.
The board of civil authority held its third meeting to strike off and add names to the voting registers. New names appeared in wards one and six, with ward six showing intensified contest over street borders. Firemen Gilley and Carr attempted a challenge, but the board later moved Gilley back to ward one, adjourned, and pledged to continue revising the list.
Montpelier faces an annual meeting vote on building or buying a city hall. Items include erecting on Main Street property adjoining the hall and the need to fund via rent savings to cover a modern building. Departments including police city clerk treasurer and water and stables must be managed from municipal premises.
Woodbury Granite Company announced it was awarded the contract to furnish granite for the new Cook County Court House in Chicago. The deal involves an expenditure of 160000.
