Five people perished in a March morning blaze in Tunnel Hill Pennsylvania. Mrs Mary Grogan aged 63 and three Grogan children were among the victims, with one person unidentified. The fire destroyed several houses and four stores, nearly wiping out the village.
Bridgeport Conn Feb 20 Charles Siliman town clerk and treasurer of Easton was overcome by smoke and flames while fighting a house fire early this morning and died of heart failure before aid arrived. The house was destroyed.
In Walsenburg Colorado on February 20 an explosion at the Maitland mine Sunshine section killed or trapped many miners. Reports list names such as Archi pie Milly Moran James W, Battista Robern Cor ona Coste and others. Rescue efforts continue as authorities assess the number of deaths and missing.
Judge Harmon of the Probate Court today disallowed the will of Jnnpiv Chase and revoked the adoption of DeForest Woodfull Chase by her legal son and heir, Dr Horace Chase of Boston. The ruling affects the succession set by Swain Chase, long deceased, and unsettles the heirs and double adoption claim.
Henry M. Moore of Northfield Massachusetts longtime businessman and prominent religious worker for over fifty years died early this morning. He was known nationwide for his work with the Young Men's Christian Association movement.
Dolard Gaines aged 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Gaines of Underhill, died after three months of illness from diabetes in Molooky Masa. New York Feb. Jidan Mitchell president of the United Mine Workers received a telegram offering him the nomination for Cy to represent that district. Mitchell immediately replied to the convention then meeting in Peoria declining the nomination.
Gussie Hart actress at the Third Avenue Theatre was found dead in her room on 6th. A general alarm was raised by three men and two women who fled when the death was learned. One caller said a woman had been badly hurt. Blood stains on the hall and stairs suggest she was injured before entering the house.
Chief Niles of Burlington fire department refutes rumors that Hutland appealed for aid Sunday. He says Rutland and Burlington exchanged limited messages and describes the fire response, noting hydrants were not frozen and a small crew handled the blaze with limited alarms.
