Great loans to keep up upward momentum. Total war loan now $10,310,000,000. Austria secures a German banking loan in London. Premier Aequith to seek £400,000 in votes of credit in the House of Commons. Hungarian finance minister finalizes a loan of 150,001,000 marks with German bankers.
The Cologne Volkszeitung, via Overseas News Agency, cites a mutiny by Hindu troops in Egypt. An entire regiment allegedly joined the mutineers, killing twelve officers including the major, with others defecting. After a two hour battle the mutineers were defeated. General Maxwell ordered withdrawal of Mohammedan troops from the Suez Canal area to another theatre amid desertions.
From Bucharest dispatches via Rome the exchange telegraph reports Romania leans to the entente. It says Erzerum has fallen to the Russians and a March concentration of Russian troops in Bessarabia would allow Romanian troop transfer to the Bulgarian frontier. Allies are rushing Serbian Albanian and Montenegrin forces to Salonika for a coordinated offensive with Romania.
Berlin reports British forces renewed effort south of Ypres to retake a trench recently captured by Germans. The assault met stiff opposition and heavy losses were reported as British troops were driven back.
Ansonia faces its largest labor trouble as about four thousand workers mostly foreign born and unskilled strike at American Nines company. Officials, surprised by the unity of the strikers formed without union leadership, move to manage a volatile stoppage. A sweeping dry spell disrupted the plant, forcing workers to confront dangerous molten metal and unsafe conditions.
Washington February 18 Sweden appeals to the United States and other neutrals to uphold rules of information law protecting neutral commerce and navigation. Sweden blames Great Britain for detention of mail and other wartime actions, noting Secretary Lansing delayed reply until the Lusitania controversy with Germany cooled. The Ekengren note was presented after prior discussions, with no immediate response until then.

Funeral services for vein W McDonald prominent in the Barry granite industry and former Alderman were held Monday morning at his home on MIM street.
