Prepared by President Wilson the United States demands the immediate release of the 72 American sailors aboard the prize ship Yarrowdale. The German authorities halt the demand pending clearance of the case.
Washington reports unofficial word that Germany released 72 American seamen among the Yarrowdale prisoners. Officials prepared a peremptory note to Berlin seeking their freeing as cabinet members weigh next moves. An inquiry through the Spanish embassy also asks why the second train load of former American officials remains delayed in Munich.
Government from Washington issued Paris advisories directing Americans in Austria to depart. The alert was reported from Paris on February 16, citing U.S. authorities in Washington and Paris.

Dr Hirt Hazelton long time Barnet physician dies at his Barnet home aged near 70. Born in Strafford he studied at the Homeopathic hospital in Cleveland and began practice 53 years ago. Survived by second wife Harriet Wilson and children Bertha Hazelton and Charlotte Dow, with son Dr Robert Hazelton, funeral set for Barnet Congregational church with Masons in attendance.
New York reports the quiet marriage of Rev Charles O Wilson rector of Church of Our Savior Roslindale to Miss Mary de F Clark daughter of Crawford Clark of 21 West Forty-seventh street The ceremony at Grace Episcopal church was led by Rev Charles E Shuttery with Rev B M Washburn as best man The couple will visit Roslindale early next week to attend Ash Wednesday services The case involving Wilson from a breach of promise suit with Miss Laura Ly Johnson of Minneapolis ended in a verdict for the plaintiff but was reversed on appeal

Bert Goodvil of Waterbury died after four days of illness at 33. He was the son of Almeron and Lathera Goodell, married to Lila Dalley of Waterbury, and lived in town since marriage. He worked 22 years at Roberts mill, partly as foreman. He leaves his wife, two children in Waterbury, Daniel in Windsor, and one grandchild. Funeral arrangements not yet completed.
In Andover New Hampshire on February 16 the student council of Phillipe Andover Academy recommended eliminating athletic activities for the rest of the year and substituting military training. The faculty will decide next week. The council urged students to forego personal athletic ambitions and commit to the promised drills.
An unidentified woman burned to death last night when an undertaker's assistant knocked over a stove during preparation for an aged woman's burial. A man fatally injured by a fall from a fire escape rescued his mother and saved an insurance policy. Nurses and physicians struggled to care for patients as fire spread through the building.
William N Fitch, 29 or 30 years old, former Presbyterian clergyman, was found guilty in Brooklyn for selling a patent medicine touted as a cure for drug addiction. Police say he profited from the business. his attorney claimed he believed in the medicine’s sincerity and did not intend to violate the law. The drug allegedly advertised as a cure for 29 years and promoted openly as Dr Ritchie.
A Barre citizens caucus named 11 city officers for the March election, with Alderman Glysson the mayoral nominee after a three-candidate vote. Noyes beat Denning 170 to 11 for assessor, and a referendum on free medical inspection in public schools was approved for March consideration.
After the assessorship contest adjourned, supporters secured nomination papers for Suitor at the city clerk's office and sixteen signatures were attached to the certificate. The will of Dr Henry D Holton, president of the Vermont National Bank and Home for the Aged and Disabled, was read in probate court. He leaves the Main and Walnut street home to the First Baptist church for a parsonage, and its carriage house to the same church as a parish house with 4000 dollars for overhauls. The Vermont National Bank stock and other bequests to churches and institutions are detailed, with two thirds of the income split between Baptist missions and youth societies and one third to the Home for the Aged and Disabled. Private bequests include stocks and bonds valued at about 50000. The estate’s remainder supports the Vermont campus medical resources and the Austine Institute for the Deaf.
Funeral services for James S. Ross, a plainsman in Kansas for thirty years, were conducted Thursday at 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Edgar Crossland.
