A strong earthquake in the vilayet of Gives near Sivas, northern Asiatic Turkey, damaged government structures and many buildings. About 30 people reported killed. details unavailable. Sivas district population around 50,000.
President elect Taft and Mrs Taft arrived in Washington from Cincinnati at Dupont Circle. They are in good health and plan conferences with President Roosevelt on canal affairs and inaugural plans. Taft will also consult about his cabinet, address, and Masons visit. he may attend Alaska Yukon exposition events in Seattle.
Gloucester Maws Foo. 16. News came of two missing men from the Banks after the fishing schooner Atlanta sailed three months ago for a Grand Banks trip. Skipper Richard Wadding and crew faced relentless gales and rough seas in the weeks after Louisburg provisioning, with only a small catch and severe weather. The missing are William De Coste Harbour Bouche and Fred Burke, believed drowned or frozen after their dory dash on Dec 5.
The Sterling divorce hearings concluded with the judge to render judgment. Jalen Alexander Sterling is accused by his wife Clara Elizabeth Taylor of alleged misconduct. Mrs Stirling testified about a visit by Lord Northland and about evidence suggesting misconduct.

A fire at the Flores Theater in Acapulco during a memorial event for Gov. Damian Flores of Guerrero state killed hundreds of spectators and left many more injured. Emergency crews fought the blaze but many bodies were burned beyond recognition, and authorities evacuated and buried victims as mourning spread through the region.
Reston, Feb 16 Judge George of the Probate court heard more evidence in the contest over Mrs. Caroline B. Johnson of New York who left a 2 million estate in New York Newport and Boston. The contestant’s case closes and evidence for the will was offered. Rackemann said he was asked by Ellerton Whitney to act as an executor and testified about memoranda for the will. The instrument was drawn after a conference with Mrs Johnson and other heirs. Senate backs immigration station funding in Hope bill. Boston site planned though Castle Island remains off limits.
Sixty year old Miehs oe Hewneesey was held without bail to face charges after pouring kerosene on his wife and setting her ablaze. She remains in critical condition with life threatening injuries and may die.

Mrs Charles H Eastman likely to be the first witness with direct and cross examination to follow.
In Rutland on February 16 a dispute arose over the failure to serve a corrective citation against Henry Cramton and the handling of a bail and a non est inventus return. Constable Clark claimed he delivered the paper to Buttles and Botsford, who denied receipt and said the proper recipient was Justice Rows. Botsford and Buttles asserted the bail was questionable and stressed the matter was politically charged ahead of the election.
HY A Flood was in Plainfield on business. Mrs. Marrion is confined to her rooms in the Worthen block by illness. Mr. and Mrs. George M. Strong of Bellows Falls were visitors yesterday. Rev. W. Johnson of Waterbury visited his son W. C. Johnson Jr. in the city yesterday. Priney Gotler left for Platteburg N Y to take a job in a clothing store. Among arrivals at the paid ae Rees were Armando Leibi am Holtman, George A. McOmber, New York, FW Currier, T D Simmon, J T Lyon, J A Comaty, Boston. Basketball in Church Street, Brisgileck Wadneeday at Spaaldling dard in 'Tolette whale at Kendricks Draggers and the Red Crows. 2 to 5 Wednesday afternoon. No admittance without a set. Number limited to 350. Admission 28 cents.

Fred Jarvis a Fair Haven farmer and former Canadian migrant died by his own action early today in a neighbor's barn where he worked. A boy finding breakfast call discovered the body. The cause is not known. Jarvis, about age forty, left a wife and four children after moving to Vermont three years ago.
Brattleboro on February 14 observed Ex-Governor Frederick Holbrook’s 96th birthday with visitors and flowers. A telegram from President Theodore Roosevelt offered congratulations, dated from the White House, wishing him good fortune on his 96th birth anniversary.
Rutland Victoria Erbees Vesper service at WTL Spence resumed the discussion of Socialism begun Sunday before. His aim for the anon wag Socialism Menace or a Hope, he said there was little in socialism that was a menace to society while much harm in a general social effect. The average person fears giving up convictions for a salary and comfortable life. Socialism threatens ambition and suppresses individualism. The idea of personal property drives most industry, and destroying it would deprive the world of effort.
George Kaley was arrested for wealing and receiving stolen beer. Joy aided in the theft involving C. Pee Co. of Burlington. John Nephew, previously sentenced to three months for 80 dozen eggs from H. P. Prindle’s wagon, is linked. Martin Kaley and siblings Kate Kaley Kaley are jailed on related charges. The family resides on Map Street White Chapel.
Burlington Republicans unanimously renominated Mayor Walter Bigelow for another term last night. He will face Democrat James E. Burke, a former mayor, and W. P. McKillip who will run on a separate ticket in the upcoming election.

Goddard Seminary held a junior exhibition last evening showcasing twenty seven members. Students presented essays on topics including The United States Navy, The White Mountains, and Samuel Champlain with several readings excused. Music selections featured piano solos by Lamberton and others as the event drew local interest.
A lively Barre audience enjoyed the Great Albini and his company in an evening of illusions and mime. Miss Bessie Allen performed a clever song and dance, while the show featured telepathy demonstrations and humorous performances. An upcoming Davenport Bros. act and spiritualist stunts were announced, with admissions at 10 cents and reserved seats 20 cents at Kendricks.

The death of Mrs. John Cordick of Heaton occurred after several weeks of treatment in Montpelier. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, with Western relatives noted.

A severe snowstorm slowed Central Vermont trains with hail and frozen snow, causing two hour delays on the main line and branch runs to the city and Williamstown. The 2:15 a.m. train struggled to junction, returned late, and an extra engine was used to push services through.
Charles C Ramadell died Sunday morning and his funeral was held this afternoon at the Congregational church. The Rev. F A Poole officiated as mourners and delegations from labor unions and lodges attended. Interment followed at Queen Mount cemetery with Masonic rites and bearers from the community.
East Barre report states Walter Bixby recovered sufficiently from a runaway accident in Darre to be taken home by Sunday. The update notes he remains under care but is stable and headed home for rest and convalescence.
