Fire swept through the Casing Theatre on Broadway near Thirty Ninth Street destroying the interior and injuring two. The Lady Teazle company led by Lillian Russell was rehearsing when a smoke-filled stair caused panic among about forty chorus girls. The fire began in a third floor dressing room and spread rapidly, with the building housing 1300 seats under Schubert Brothers management.
