Federal immigration authorities, after a year of evidence collection, move to deport aliens gathered chiefly on the Pacific Coast. The 54 S.W.W. agitators travel under heavy guard toward New York as deportation actions proceed.
Turmoil in Butte Mont ended when hundreds gathered at the railroad, searched a train for deportees, found none aboard. Federal officials, aided by military guards, thwarted a planned mob delivery of 54 I W W prisoners to Atlantic ports amid immigration action.
Lamsener, Pluss. Feb 1. Kap lan Kaplan, secretary of the strike committee, was arrested for evading the draft. He was taken to Camp Devens for army custody and charged with failure to register in 1917 or later. He is 57 and known as Tnie. real name Hyman. His son later showed a registration card. The arrest followed a major disturbance at the textile mill with hundreds of strikers clashing with police on Broadway. Two arrests were made.
New York February 10 Workers from the World movement en route to New York face possible deportation there as officials consider strikes by hoisting engineers and bricklayers in 12 cities.
