Two unarmed U S ships will depart from New York to enter the prohibited area in a show of neutral transit. The voyages mark the first time American vessels will attempt to sail into the restricted zone despite German threats against neutral ships.
New York reports two American cargo ships the New Orleans and the Rochester will depart for Bordeaux France as the first U S vessels on their way to the war zone since Germanys unrestricted submarine campaign. Both crews include many Americans and neither ship is armed as Washington withholds additional clearances. Officials cite retaliation fears and exasperation over merchant ship idleness while reaffirming U S intent to honor treaties with Prussia.
Paris reports several successful raiding operations along the French front with violent artillery activity north of Verdun. New York Feb 10 The steamship Frederick VII of the Scandinavian American line was allowed by its owners in Copenhagen to convey Von Bernstorff and his suite to a Scandinavian port. The funeral for Joan Fracasi was held this afternoon at 23 Sibley Avenue Montpelier. The service placed in the vault at the cemetery to await spring burial beside his wife, who died four years ago. The deceased was years old and had resided in Montpelier for the past few years.
