Thirteen pit workers died at the Molsvver colliery in England after a chain broke and a bucket holding about eight hundred gallons of water fell 500 feet into the shaft where men labored. Several others were injured in the accident.
The 21st annual banquet of the New England Alumni Association of the University of Vermont was held at the Boston City Club with 75 in attendance. Governor Eugene N. Foss and university President Tenton spoke, urging Vermont to do more for state institutions, while other speakers included Dr. F. A. Clapp, Dr. John Brooke Wheeler, and Elias Lyman. Officers for the coming year were elected, with Dr. Frank Hypers as president and Carroll W. Doten as secretary, among others.

In rural Montpelier area two neighboring farms caught fire within hours. Mrs Sassi saved her family and some livestock before a barn and house were lost, while Leo Brown’s Jones Brook home and barn burned despite efforts to save the property. Neighbors aided both households. the causes remain undetermined.
The Hed ding church drew a large audience last evening for a talk by Dr Stewart on Christ feeding the multitude. He urged using opportunities wisely to build up the church, warned against mere agitation, and urged true conversion over mere crowd-pleasing efforts.
Brattleboro reports Central Vermont Railway will extend from Windsor to Brattleboro through a line paralleling the Connecticut River. The project, authorized by the Vermont legislature, aims to connect Montreal with New London and Providence, with trackage rights over the Boston & Maine between Windsor and Brattleboro.

Thousands of members across Newland of the South America region marked the third anniversary of the Boy Scouts. Units planned long marches over snowy country, and at nine o clock tonight every scout will stand at attention and recite the scout oath, "Be prepared."
Nicola Rossi, a prominent Barre Italian resident and former baritone with Reeves’ Band, died at 243 o clock after a brief illness following his wife's death on January 30. Born November 10, 1845 in Italy, he came to America thirty years ago, resided in Westerly then Barre, and left two daughters, five sons, and City Assessor Augustua M. Rossi as survivors. Funeral Sunday at 2 PM, Hope Cemetery burial beside Mrs Rossi.
Over 300 people gathered in the chapel at Spankingham School for a one act farce titled The Mouse Traps. The senior commercial club organized the event with talents including Misses Maw Hertha Date, Alfred Heary, and James Hemmett delivering readings and songs.
