Sturgis of Milton, a Central Vermont railroad conductor, was crushed between freight cars at Montpelier Junction during a shunting move and rushed to Heaton Hospital in Montpelier unconscious with likely fatal injuries. He has long served the railroad, is 43, married with two children, and his wife arrived in Montpelier after the accident.
Burlington February 3 The will of T Murphy late of the city was proved in court Saturday morning with a hearing held. Margaret Quinn of Rodinster and Katherine McLeas of Montpelier contested alleging improper provisions. Witnesses testified and the contest signals further appeals. Remaining estate to widow. Contestants represented by Kufas F. Mevern and J Ward tar ver at Marre with others.
In New York on February 5 crews reported heavy sailing activity with several American line steamers arriving Liverpool and warnings that the steamship St Louis would not sail. The New York with 23 passengers left Liverpool and the Cunard Carminia carried I% passengers while pier access was restricted. Crews described scarce shipping and reduced traffic with vessels idle after recent sailings.
Sheriff from Keene arrived in Hinsdale to deputize men as guards for the Connecticut River Power Company plant between Hinsdale and Vernon. The facility will be under night and day guard, with potential impact felt as far south as Worcester and Providence.
White River Junction, Feb 5. Owing to the break between this country and Germany two railroad bridges at the junction will be guarded day and night by armed troops provided by the United States. Pedestrians without passes are barred from the bridges and must use the Highway bridge. The two structures connect the Concord division and the White River lines, linking Boston and Manchester.

Elbert A Bugbee longtime president of E A Bugbee & Co granite firm died at his home 109 Orange Street Saturday evening after two years of failing health. He leaves a wife Miss Lilla Curtis two children Arthur Bugbee and Mrs Jonsie Douglas and several relatives. He was active in Barre Granite Manufacturers Association and fraternal groups and served as director of Taylor Savings Bank. Funeral at home Tuesday at 2 pm with burial Elmwood Cemetery. flowers requested to be omitted.
Socialists at Granite Street Auditorium reconsidered their aim of excluding Suitor from Barre city politics. They propose nominating him for mayor with labor support, citing his long involvement in Vermont organi zations and the AFL state committee. A Wednesday meeting may endorse Suitor, while other candidates for clerk treasurer and alderman are discussed.
