News from Shanghai reports Dr Sun Yat Sen elected president of the republic of China. He declares his sole aim is to secure peace and a stable government for the millions of fellow countrymen with prompt action. Crowds greet the news with enthusiasm.

Mrs Hattie Barrett Taylor aged 72 wife of Albert Taylor and former grand matron of the Vermont Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star died yesterday at her apartment in Thanks henge. Born Hinadale New Hampshire October 26 1899 she married Mr Taylor in November 1867. She had nearly recovered from an illness when a heart trouble worsened. The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon.
In New York on December 20 a report said President Taft would soon call Otto T. Bannard to an important campaign position for the Republican national convention. Bannard, already involved in the preliminary opening phase, may serve as a principal adviser to the president as the campaign proceeds toward November voting.

Mrs Thonas Purcell widow of a man killed Wednesday night by a train arrived in Barlington with her son Harry and took the body to Vergennes for burial this afternoon. Conductor and engineer did not see the fatality until informed in Butler. An engine examination found no blood or signs of contact, supporting a theory that Purcell attempted to board the train and was struck or dragged between cars before the body was left on track.
Frank Hill, a soldier from Hy treep at Fort Ethan Allen, was arraigned in municipal court on two counts of assault with intent to kill. He was bound over to county court in 400 on each charge after failing to post bond. Mivs Parker, the colored woman involved, testified and was remanded to jail after failing to post 100 bond.
A section of the Neponset River dam at Milton lower mill gave way injuring workers and drowning carpenter Charles Track who worked below the structure. The aged dam had long served the paper mill operations and prompted rescue efforts as others escaped.
The body of L A Croteau of Williamstown was found in the shed at his home on the road to Chelsea. He apparently placed a shotgun in his mouth and fired, ending his life. Town doctor Dr Hurley responded after relatives heard the shot and tried to intervene. Croteau left eight children and was known as a hardworking undertaker in Williams.
Spaulding high school alumni and guests gathered in Howland hall for a formal dance and concert. About 14 attendees from outside the city joined the event, with Riley Miherta leading a full program from 8 to 1. Refreshments were served during a mid program intermission while Mine Clara Ewen and Priscilla Page supervised punch bowls.

A telegram from Mrs. F de Martin reports the death of Mrs. K W Morse wife of a former City Hotel proprietor and well known in Barre. Funeral set for Sunday at one o'clock. She had been seriously ill though her family did not know until recently and leaves husband daughter Ruth and a sister in Hartford among relatives who recently moved from Randolph.
James BiHek of Clan Gor lone No 12 D C received a telegram announcing the death of Andrew McKay in Clyde Ohio after a long illness. He was long time resident of Marre and longtime granite business owner. Surviving are four sons including Barrett. Body arrives Saturday at 6 40 pm. Funeral Sunday at 1 30 pm from A W Telger Co undertaking rooms. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery expected. Garden members to attend in a body.
William Kesson died this forenoon at his Barre home after a long illness from cancer. He was about 60, born in Aberdeen, Scotland, and had lived in the city many years. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and two sons.
At the Hiawatha Judge No. 20 annual meeting H G Boyce was elected Noble Grand for the next year. Elected to serve are I G Boyce as Noble Grand Dennison Dene more as vice grand H W Scott as secretary and D V Stenn as treasurer. A joint installation with Bright Star Rebelah lodge is anticipated next week.
