Montpelier resident B J Pratt remains in hospital after an Friday evening accident on Berlin street near C C Roberts house. Pratt suffered a broken right leg as his horse collapsed and died from exhaustion later that night. Neighbors and officials assisted, with Dr W T Harkness sending Pratt to hospital and street department head E A Witham removing the horse. The evening also saw a man named Provost tending Pratt’s daughter, a family still facing hardship as Christmas gifts were taken and fuel was provided by neighbors.
Uniontown Pa Dec 27 William Pantelos owner of a store was arrested and freed for a hearing as Fayette County arson ring fires struck a building. Firefighters and crowds battled the blaze. state police and deputy Gregory guarded the scene while Albert Smith, facing county jail observation, remained under watch. Residents in Jefferson Washington and Perry townships urged action to root out the arsonists.
William Hood, a Negro gunman with a long police record, was arraigned in Springfield on charges of assault with intent to kill an officer and carrying a loaded revolver. Hood, arrested after a raid on a top-floor room, allegedly shot Patrolman Alder in the leg during a pistol battle as two suspects attempted to rob a white man. Lonnie Johnson, arrested during the shooting, faces related assault charges.
In Barre the Barre and Montpelier Traction and Power Company provides no electric car trips from Thursday to today due to heavy snow. Cars on the hill line are buried under snow. ice and weather force commuters to rely on steam service or motorist transport, leaving residents disappointed during Christmas holidays with limited interurban connections to Montpelier and Wells River.

Mrs. Ella Owen Brink died at 12 20 Sunday night at her East Barre home after a 13 month illness. Born July 28 1852 in Lowell, she was daughter of Ellen and Susan Stewart. She married Frederick Owen in 1874 and after his death, married Consider Brink who died in 1906. Survived by eight children and twenty one grandchildren, with siblings and many relatives listed. Funeral from East Barre Congregational Church Thursday at 2 PM, Rev. James Rimage officiating, burial in Morrisville.
The funeral for Raymond W. Curtis seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Frank Curtis of Prom Street was held at the Universalist church. He died at City Hospital from internal injuries after sliding from a ten foot embankment near his home last Sunday. The service featured hymns sung by Betty Brown with organ accompaniment by Mrs F C Hakerk. Burial will be in Himsved cemetery in spring. Pallbearers were H I Mansfield and H A MaIfield. Mrs H McKee and two Brandon children, J Maxfield from Esax Junction, and Mr and Mrs Rod erick Somers from Northfield attended.
Mrs Euthecia C Spencer, native of Plainfield, died this morning at 34 Mount Street in Spencer after illness. Her husband died 42 years ago. Survived by four children Gr M Spencer of Plainfield, M P Spencer and B R Spencer of Barre, Emily Veine of Barry Town, a half sister Mrs Gertrude Dodge of Berlin, half brother C B Gale of Youngstown Ohio, and several others. Funeral services at her son's Mount Street home with burial in Plainfield village cemetery after services.
Prominent granite industry carver and cutter John Battiggi died after a lengthy illness in Haydenville Massachusetts where he had been confined for 14 months. Born July 1 1874 in Breano Avenue he emigrated to the United States at age two and worked in stone and related trades in Hallowell Maine Barre and nearby communities. He married Mrs Louise Bizzozere on November 5 1908 and they had a son and a stepson. Burial will be at Elmwood vault after funeral from Seminary Street residence.
