U S Supreme Court ordered the state to show cause why original proceedings should not be instituted by Rhode Island and New Jersey liquor dealers. The order directs defense of the Day amendment issue with a January 5 deadline for response.
Washington Dec 22 The stroene cart ordered the government to show cause why original propondingy should not be instituted in Ore State of Whende Tstaanl and New Jersey liquor dealers case. The Amendment’s validity and injunction against enforcement were sought, arguing conflicts with state police powers and federal constitution. The court followed yeild procedure to expedite matters as the amendment takes effect Jan 1.
Washington daily report notes the Supreme Court renewed consideration on January 4 without issuing an opinion on sections of the Volstead prohibition enforcement act. The case concerns the law governing alcoholic content in beer and its constitutionality remains unresolved.
Indianapolis December reports Judge A B Anderson allowed Alexander Howat head of the United Mine Workers Kumite district to prepare his defense on contempt charges by next Monday. James Walker aged about six minutes past manhood died at his mother Annie Walker Vine street home Saturday evening. He served the Standard Quarry Co for years and earlier worked as a traveling salesman for BK Willison & Co. He had been ill for six months and spent time in Quincy Massachusetts before returning home to Barre. Survived by his mother, two brothers Gentyn of Barre and Mick of Barre, and sister Mrs William Leith of Vine street. Funeral Tuesday afternoon with interment in Elmwood cemetery.
