Harry W. Suydam broker was shot in the stomach at ten oclock in the forenoon on Broad street. He was taken to a hospital in a critical condition. John C Turnedon an inventor was arrested after the shooting but refused to talk further.
Flushing reports indicate both sides will present witnesses next week as Thornton Hains fate remains undecided until after Christmas. District Attorney Darrin suggests Mrs Annis may not testify before Tuesday. Eyewitnesses Funke and Andrews described intervals between shots and Hains firing at the float and publisher Annis.
James Harmon, 18, of Somerville, killed Maud Hartley yesterday morning. He was arrested and held at Cambridge jail after the shooting. Alienists examined him and he claimed amnesia, claiming a troubled mind. Medical examiners at Somerville discussed his mental state. The family and mother of the victim say he has shown instability for months. The police sergeantfather says Harmon has impulsive tendencies but no stated intent to harm.

Members may not work for clubs or fraternal groups at less than standard local rates, except for charity cases. violations are unprofessional conduct, subject to expulsion. W D Quimby of Boston visits friends. Angelo Diversi, arrested for poolroom gambling, to stand trial next Tuesday. Mrs Jamie Gow of South Hoyles has a daughter born this afternoon at Teamey’s Looner.
Dee Tulland files for divorce alleging bigamy after a New York trip. Deputy Sheriff Whittaker reports the case docket and delays trial to next Wednesday. Ferguson alleges no prior marriage. Temples and others note expenses and possible extortion claims.
Salvatore Madonis a Montpelier shoe maker received a black hand letter this week threatening his life if he stayed. The missive arrived Tuesday night and sparked police inquiry led by Grand Juror Bailey with help from others. Initial suspicion pointed to a local man and possible York origin. the note bore two enclosures and a coffin-like image, and Madonis left town after reporting the threat.
More than 150 members attended the Wells River gathering on December 19 as the New England Fat Men's club reported strong finances and broad reach with over 1,400 members across all states. A banquet at Hale's Tavern featured O A Smith of Conway Massachusetts as the heaviest man present, toastmaster C L Young of Laconia, and Frank Plumley of Northfield gave the address. Officers elected included President M T Houston of Portland and secretary H A Parker of Bradford Vermont. the club invited Portland Maine to host next year’s meeting.

Augusta Ga December 19 President elect Taft announced United States Senator Philander Knox of Pennsylvania would serve as secretary of state in his cabinet. Taft described Knox as a great lawyer and capable, noting his influence and readiness to advise on cabinet and administration matters.
The compilation lists acts and amendments including railroad regulations, creation of the board of agriculture and forestry, administration appointments, bond and state treasury accounts, village charter amendments, fire insurance and drug definitions, and various incorporations and appropriations. Notable items include the creation of a state board, changes to the state prison transfer rules, and a number of acts amending public statutes.

Representative Harry Daniels suggested nonattendance could be a service to the state.
St Johnsbury mourns two deaths last night, George Story of Cavendish and Mrs Lucien S Pearl widow of William J Pearl, once a merchant here. Story, 60, longtime resident, active in Masonic lodge and North Congregational Church, died at home. Pearl, 70, longtime North Church member, leaves a wife and daughter Lillian. Funeral Monday at 2 PM.
John Dawson 27 of Barre and Peekskill long associated with sharpening trade. He was reported dead after being missing in Peekskill for five years, with body on route to Barre. Funeral planned in Elmwood family lot. date not yet fixed.
Brattleboro December 19 The financial statement of the Valley Fair association shows the deficit from the last fair will be about $400. Treasurer Fo Adar says the deficiency remains untrimmed and is nearly the same amount as the prior event.
