Attorney General A Mitchell Palmer unveils a plan to fight price gouging by forming local price committees and restricting purchases on essential goods until costs drop. He says 400 officials and women’s groups back the campaign and warns mayors and state attorneys to act vigorously against profiteers.
In Cork Ireland on December 17 masked raiders entered the Cork and London railway premises at midnight. They confined employees in a store room and searched for arms and ammunition believed to be for transit to southern military stations. No arms were found.
Forty three men and women died and over 100 were injured in an explosion at the Mariensiel ammunition depot near Wilhelmshaven while shells were being unloaded. Berlit reports the disaster on Tuesday December 16.

Felice Comolli a longtime Barre resident died at his Milford New Hampshire home after a lingering illness. Born in Brenno Valle Italy he came to the United States five decades ago settling in Concord and Barre. He worked in granite industry thirty years before later moving to Dorchester and finally Milford. He is survived by his widow sister aunt and son Charles Jr. who predeceased him seven years ago.
