San Antonio Texas December 11. Thirteen Negroes were hanged at Fort Sam Houston today for complicity in the riot at Houston on August 23. Sixteen whites and one colored were killed in the riot by members of the 21st United States Infantry. The trouble began over the arrest of a colored woman. Of 63 men tried, 41 were sentenced to life imprisonment, one to hard labor for two and a half years, and three for two years. five were acquitted.
Floyd Denton pleaded guilty in Lathoitle county court to assault with intent to kill while armed with a dangerous weapon and received a sentence of not less than seven nor more than 15 years at hard labor in the state's prison at Windsor. He attacked Mrs. Frank Wright on Oct. 27, shooting her in the back and feet after her husband left for northern New York. Mrs. Wright escaped after a struggle and summoned help by phone. Denton wounded himself before help arrived. She was treated in Burlington for the bullet and the wound. Denton and Wright’s farm incidents followed a period of hospitalization and county jail confinement for Denton.
