The Ballinger-Pinchot committee submitted a majority report to Congress asserting Secretary Richard A. Ballinger is not an enemy of conservation and found no grounds to question his faithfulness or efficiency as a public officer.
Judge J R Thornton of Alexandria was chosen United States senator to succeed Senator McKinney. Thornton received 32 votes in the Senate with scattered support in the House, including Congressman Brosard five and Wilkinson two. The House tally showed Thornton twenty nine, Thomas eleven, Wilkinson further details unclear.
Two men, described as Negroes, were found hanged from a tree at Double Branch, two miles from Monroeville, yesterday. They had been arrested on a charge of burning a barn. The incident follows their detention in connection with the arson case.

In East Middlebury a centenarian preacher Rev Seigwick W Bidwell marked his 101st birthday in a quiet gathering. Born December 1, 1800 in Starksboro Vermont he taught school, joined the ministry in 1834 and served 22 towns in Vermont and New York, possibly the nation’s oldest living Methodist preacher.
