He leaves siblings and was related to Capt Hiram E. of Grand Army circles.
Burlington Aug 25. Pappere served Saturday in a suit by George E Trick vs P. Wand claiming profits from liquor sales under license held since May 4 1908. Trick says he was equal partner with Mr Wood in the venture and seeks a true settlement. case to be tried in county court in March.
A Rutland priest prevented an audience from witnessing an Italian wedding at St. Peter's Church. Father T. J. Gainey told the large crowd the ceremonies were postponed and urged parishioners to disperse. The disruption occurred yesterday afternoon as the planned wedding drew a surprised, tense turnout.
A train wreck three miles southwest of Cincinnati during an excursion killed one person and injured many as several cars toppled from an embankment. The engineer and fireman died. others were crushed or thrown from the locomotive. The incident occurred as the train struck a freight tail on the main track while entering the south yards at high speed. Meanwhile a separate notice reports Baldwin Holmes, a former Agriculture Department official in Washington, surrendering to U S marshals on conspiracy charges tied to premature use of a crop report. Holmes posted bond at 310,000 and had substantial other assets.
In Newbern North Carolina on August 24 John Moore a 20 year old Black wax taker from Craven county was attacked at a riverside bridge by a mob armed with rifles and revolvers. His hands were tied behind him and his body riddled with bullets. Moore was beaten with an axe and fled before capture engaged by Sheriff J W Riddle as crowds gathered.
Robert Boutwell, hero of the Lake Maranacook hotel fire, died yesterday in Readfield Maine. The 20 year old former Malden Massachusetts relative Harvey Toutwell cared for him at bedside. Boutwell, a hotel clerk, awoke guests and saved others before perishing after diving to rescue a drowning passenger as the steamer wreck occurred.
Two prisoners awaiting trial on murder and burglary charges escaped from the Albany penitentiary by digging through a cell ceiling and slipping to the roof around 4 50 pm. The escape was not found until suppertime. Cosimo Miele, alleged killer of Thomas Redmond in February, and Thomas Mart, accused of burglary on July 4, are at large. Officials offer no explanation for the delayed discovery as part of the prison is under repair.

The funeral of the late Lote Hall was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o clock, near the home of A. B. Curtis on Pleasant Street. The Rev. George H. Watt officiated. Interment followed in Williamstown. Tamaqua Pa Aug 28 John Mitchell president of United Mine Workers of America says the union will demand an eight hour day and wages tied to a fixed price by April next. He plans to confront George Baer of Philadelphia and Reading Railway and cites 150000 miners as backing the action.
In Hertin X H at 6 20 p m a wind torn gate broke in the oil gate of the International access causing a wall of water to wash down Main Street. Concrete sidewalk and cellars flooded for about 500 yards with damage estimated over 6000 dollars. Repairs to shut down by crew already at work. The canal gate installation last summer was largely removed for most of the distance.
Three members of the Gaines family perished yesterday on Peddock's Island in Boston Harbor from ptom aine poisoning. The victims were Antoine Gaines, 60, of West Cambridge. his son-in-law Joseph Oliver, 35, and Oliver's infant son Joseph Diver, about three years old.

Walter Christie, 4 ree power automobile racer, powered his own and the American kilometer record on the beach yesterday to 24 2-5 seconds, coming within two seconds of the coast speed mark.

At the First Baptist church in Sublette a man fired a bullet through his heart after a sermon and died instantly. A draft for $700 was found on the person. The report of the revolver frightened many in attendance.
Readfield Maine August 23 authorities spent the day investigating the death of Mattie Hackett of Kentfield who was reported dead last Thursday. Officials remained reticent about findings as inquiries continued through the day.
The Berlin resident William Henry Tarnes, 65, was found dead Saturday afternoon after presumably falling from a bridge into a rock pit about 12 feet below. A passerby sighted the body. photoed by Pred Keegan and Don De Collaines. Funeral services to be held tomorrow at 3 PM.
William Murphy of Burlington says he found mileages stolen from the Cross store and post office at Gouldeville during the night of August 11. Chief Ian Hutchinson of Northfield and Officer Rajjeer of the Office inspect the scene. A witness will testify Murphy paid was seen in Gouldeville the day of the robbery. Murphy was moved from jail to a Northfield holding cell for processing.
The Lumpers Boxers and Derrick men’s union hosted their annual Caledonia Park picnic on Saturday with over 200 attendees enjoying a pleasant day. Charles Bishop’s orchestra provided music in the pavilion while committees led by T. N. Gauthier organized the event and included Allen, George Lewis Daley, Walter Cologne, Leon Corrall, and Elector Blair.
